The Cold War, which lasted from 1945 to 1991, was a conflict between the two Superpowers of the USA and the USSR. Even though there was no direct military action between the two countries, the 'war' greatly changed the political scene of Europe and the rest of the world.
The Cold War was an almost 45 year long period of global tension between communist bloc countries and the democracies of western Europe and the United States. It was characterized by the threat of nuclear war and regional wars between the client states of the super powers. I have interviewed two people, Raedah and Baratul. Raedah graduated last year from high school and now in college. Baratul is in his last year of college. They both had different answers and opinions.
I first interviewed Raedah and my first question was “What words or phrases come to mind when you think of the term Cold War?” her answer was “ When I think of the term Cold War I think of guns and violence. Also slavery comes to mind because a lot of black people were forced into war. I think of the South because the war was between the North and South.” My second question was “Did you ever study the Cold War in school? If so, what are some aspects of the Cold War that you remember?” her answer was “maybe I did, I don’t really remember.” I didn’t ask her any questions after that because I knew she didn’t know much about Cold War. I personally blame the school for not teaching her about Cold War. Cold War was very important during 1960, that’s when A-bombs were developed by France. Soviet Union revealed that U.S. Spy plane was shot down over Soviet territory. During Cold War of 1960 John F. Kennedy was elected President of USA. My second interviewee was Baratul.
