Spread Of Islam Analysis
In the year 610 Muhammad receives revelations and has visions which he believes calls him as a messenger of God. Muhammad reveals his revelations to Khadijah who becomes his first follower and over the next 12 years he begins to preach to the people of Mecca. As they gather believers, Muhammad continues to write and record his revelations word for word into what later will become the Kora. While Muhammad was careful to always emphasize that he was simply a messenger of the God of Abraham and Jesus, it was the assertion those who did not accept Allah were damned that began to cause dissension. For the living, an opportunity to benefit from raiding the unbelievers and trading with those of the faith became attractive to many. In 630 the Muslims returned to conquer Mecca and did so with very little resistance. The Quraysh were converted to Islam and by the time of Muhammad’s death in 632 most Arabian tribes followed Islam. By 750 the Golden Age of Islam had begun and with the Abbasids victory over the Umayyads the balance of power shifted to Baghdad. By the beginning of 1000 AD advances in Mathematical concepts and developments in medicine contributed to the advancement of the Muslim world. Islam spread through Africa and developed trading through the norther and central regions of Africa. In 1030 AD, however the Umayyad caliphate was defeated by the Christian Reconquista and in 1055 the Seljuk Turks would take Baghdad.
