Changing the usual, creating a difference

It is undeniable that this year’s Intramural activities of Eastern Visayas State University paved significant impact in molding various skills of students specifically in the field of sports but still some remained less participative in this annual undertaking of the institution. This is a perennial fact of forming negative habits that deserve serious due consideration.

Based on observation in my more than three years of staying in my beloved university, during intramurals, the same scenario keep on existing again and again especially on the part of the students.
Only few managed to join in different activities maybe because it is unrelated to their individual concern.
Moreover, the worst part is that, they just go home without even participating in the activities.
They may think that it is just a waste of time without knowing that it will help them in the other way around. It can be considered a form of negligence on their part even if it would be for the better. Negligence is the sense that they are unaware of what is going on in their campus. This ideology should not be tolerated by the concerned authorities of the university.

The incongruence and conflicting interest may deviate from one another resulting to unfavourable perception towards sports and leading to a stunted physical development. In this point, students must not just confine themselves in the usual setting every sports event in the university but to seek for other avenue in fostering their own totality.

Thus, students must learn to move and move to learn. Teachers must also ensure that students must be exposed to different learning environment that would cater to a hostile scene every Intramurals.

How much time do you usually have to yourself when you get home from work or school? For many students, it isn't a very long amount of time and this is only with homework and projects. Some schools are forcing students to take a extracurricular activity. A lot of students wouldn't be able to handle having more to do piled on to them after school. They may have to help their families when they get home or may even have a job they have to go to. Being forced to have more to do after school will only be stressful and counter productive on a student. I believe students shouldn't be forced to participate in extracurricular activities because they may not have time for it, it can be too much on some students, and it takes away from their time to themselves.…

Ever since the first competition of throwing a spear, contests have determined who is stronger, faster, and smarter in a specific skill. The competitors, now better known as athletes, are beginning to specialize in a specific type of competition. Growing up, young athletes participate in a variety of sports, but they often specialize in one before even entering high school. There are numerous exceptions of athletes playing multiple sports, but these multi-sport athletes are becoming a dying breed. These players have become engrossed in a specific sport, not wanting to play others which can sometimes affect their athletic ability as well as the success of the school’s athletic program. Athletes should be encouraged, not deterred, to use their skills and ability to play multiple sports in the adolescence of their life.…

It is even hard to grade certain activities, especially ones having to do with artistic skill and such. When people think of an athlete, they think of a big jock. Someone who is dumb, self centered, and everyone's star. The athletes get the attention of all parents, teachers, and other students and they can do no wrong, even when everything that they get away with is very much so, wrong. But, what caused this illogical behavior? Their ego issues have begun to get out of control and it is not acceptable in today’s society. In order to change this unpopular behavior, rather than changing the child in the sport, why not change the sport systems? Rather than following the ‘everyone gets a trophy’ philosophy, why not have the main aspect be the benefit of playing the game? The benefits of mastering the sport and having fun while doing it, has been…

Academic learning and Sport Education are actually the complementariness of each other. They are the two sides of the same coin, which go hand and hand with each other. If education and athletics make a full development of the over-all personality of a person possible, he or she gets the qualities of leadership, tolerance, sharing and team-spirit from sports. In the article “The Positive Effects of Athletics On Educations” by Matt Blackburn(71) states that athletics has shown the improve the work ethic, increase the self- esteem, and increase the academic performance and achievement of the student-athletes involved. But according to the article “Contrary to Popular Belief: Athletics, A Negative Effect on Education” by Jake Cartwright states, In this country, athletics are seen as a great stepping stones for students to develop character, learn valuable skills, and they further aid in the everyday education of students. However, too many people are naïve as to the truth about what effects athletics truly have on a student’s education. But with that said, I agree with Matt Blackburn and see that there are many positive effects of athletics in education and believe he proves his opinion very well. As I go on how athletics and education are complimentary of each other, I will discuss how education and athletics go hand and hand, and the positive benefits of Athletics.…
