Sport Event
A sport event I have attended
I like speaking about this topic, because I am a huge tennis fan. My most memorable match was in the last year, the Roland Garros final. I got the ticket, and the trip to Paris for my 18th birthday, from my niece who came with me because he likes tennis too. When I got the ticket I didn’t know who would play in the final, but I was very lucky, because my favourite player Maria Sharapova reached the final and she had the chance to win the French Open and to secure a Career Grand Slam. (The career achievement of all four major championships is termed a Career Grand Slam.) I was very excited when we arrived at Paris. Maria played against Sara Errani, who was very good on that surface, but on that day Sharapova was undoubtedly better. The match lasted one and a half hour and I enjoyed every moment of it. After a nerveless and virtually faultless performance, full of clean hitting and daring attack, Sharapova fell to her knees as Errani netted on match point. The Russian held her head in her hands for a moment, before jumping to her feet and twirling with joy. After Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008, she won all four majors - a career Grand Slam. She ist he 10th woman tennis player, who was able to secure a Career Grand Slam and I am very happy I could see that moment from the grandstand. I think I will never forget this experience, it was the best present for my

Although there are many positive aspects to sport participation - as a player or spectator - athletic events are also often allied with aggressive behaviour. Defined as the intention to physically, verbally, or psychologically harm someone who is motivated to avoid such treatment, aggression can be either hostile or instrumental. Hostile aggression refers to actions that are motivated by anger and that are intended solely to harm someone. Thus, with this form of aggression, the perpetrator simply wants the victim to suffer - eg, a soccer player deliberately and illegally tripping an opponent with the sole purpose of injuring that person. In instrumental aggression, however, harmful actions have a purpose over and above that of wounding another player. Athletes might, for instance, attempt to injure an opponent because they believe that doing so will increase their chances of victory. In sport, research has focused mainly on the aggressive actions of three groups of individuals: athletes, spectators, and parents at youth sporting events (panel).…

It is obvious that the American society is obsessed with sports. All one needs to do to see this obsession is turn on the television and watch one of the dozens of twenty -four hour sports stations and commercials dedicated to sports. Still not convinced, then hop into your car and take a drive across any suburban American town and look at the parks and playing fields. They are full of adult and children athletes playing for leisure and competition. We, as adults, have made athletics into a billion dollar industry as spectators and participants. Our need for sports fuels our pride and self worth as Americans. However, organized youth sports in the U.S. are still a relatively new phenomenon. Prior to 1954, most organized sports in this country took place through social agencies such as the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, etc. (Seefelt & Ewing, 1997). Since this time, the benefits provided by these activities have developed into private youth sports organizations primarily run by volunteering adults.…

With reference to Clifford Geertz’s article, ‘Deep Play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight,’ sport can be a means for fostering community relationships through settling disputes and violence in a ritualized manner. The descriptive analysis of the “deep play” of the Balinese cockfight serves to provide an essential insight into the profound social and cultural structure that exists within Balinese communities. The cockfight enables competitors to channel their inner aggression and rivalry through an indirect symbolic sphere of engagement regulated by rules and rituals.…
