Spina Bifid: The Event That Changed My Life
On occasion, certain events happen that have no explanation to why or how it happened. It leaves you thinking, “why me?” Ever so often ife just wants to wake you up from your slumber and help you learn an important lesson. Even though it might be one of the happiest or most depressing thing that has ever happened to you, it helps you learn and grow as a human being. The most unexpected event that happened is when my cousin Ben passed away. Ben, who was my cousin, was one of my closest friends. In July, he had just turned 18 and would soon be heading off for college. I would be in 6th grade that same year. Ben was ecstatic for me and he always called me a Temple Tot. Everyone surrounding him would be hysterical because of all of the ridiculous jokes he spoke of. Ben used to tell me all of funny stories from when I was little, especially the story of when I would stop at nothing to pet the kittens in the tree. Ben had touched everyone's lives in some shape or another. …show more content…
Spina Bifida is a spinal defect which often causes the person to be paralyzed. Because of this, he was paralyzed from the waist down and was in a wheelchair. Ben went to Marcy Elementary School and he absolutely loved it there except for one thing. Because of his defect, he would be bullied by others in the school. One joke that always brought him down was when a bunch of boys asked him if he wanted to play tackle football. They all laughed at him and ran away, leaving him in the dust.
