By Dave Flaherty, Lindsay Post Thursday, March 15, 2012 12:45:26 EDT PM

A number of youth in the March Break program at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes take part in a mock version of the Capital One Race for Kids on Tuesday, Mar. 13. The clubs will be taking part in the first annual Capital One Race for Kids on June 2. Teams of five will compete against each other in a race that includes 10 mind-challenging checkpoints. The kids' challenge was to keep a number of balloons in the air for a certain amount of time. DAVE FLAHERTY/The Lindsay Post LINDSAY - On June 2, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes will present a new unique fundraiser that they hope will be a resounding success. The local clubs are one of many across the country taking part in the Capital One Race For Kids this summer, formally announcing the local event in Lindsay on Friday, Mar. 13. Organizers are describing this event as "an urban adventure race" where teams of five compete. However, it is not just about the physical side of things, said Heather McCullough of the Boys and Girls Clubs. There will be 10 mind-challenging checkpoints that teams will have to complete before they can cross the finish line.

It is really a special day to see all these runners participate in this Red legs Run. It shows how strong and supportive the Red Leg community and that there is always opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our youth. I projected that this race would hopefully raise 50,000$dollars. Ladies and Gentlemen. Today we have already raised over $180,000 and that number is continuing to rise. This number is unprecedented and I want to personally thank all of the sponsors and participants for helping us achieve our goal of 50,000. This money will be incorporated into the Red's community fund. This money will fund some of our outreach programs. Outreach programs include the Reds Rookie Success League, a free, coed, character-building program for 6-12 year olds in Greater Cincinnati. It will also fund Youth Baseball and Softball Funding, which underwrites expenses for more than 400 inner-city teams throughout Reds Country. Also, it will aid in Renovations of multiple baseball fields. The funds from this Red Leg Run will help restore over 325 baseball and softball…

A.E. Housman’s emotional poem, “To an Athlete Dying Young,” appears to present a solemn farewell to any young athlete who dies young in the modern age. The speaker seems to be giving his last goodbye to the town athlete whether they are the star or the benchwarmer of the team it allows the reader to feel more attached to this character that the speaker is painting. Housman carefully crafts a depressing yet loving final goodbye to all the athletes or stars of the world that die young, and then shows briefly how life is after they’re gone.…
