Sparrow Research Papers
A sparrow rests upon a branch, preening his feathers as he enjoys this rare sunny day since the past week has been nothing but gloomy and full of rain. The sun is still fairly low on the horizon, having just risen to break through the night's darkness with it's beautiful sunlight. As the sparrow watches flowers bloom, branches sway in the breeze, and other birds flutter past him, the sun gets higher and higher in the air, soon as high in the sky as it can get.

He soon comes to a pretty apple tree just beginning to blossom positioned in the middle of a field filled with flowers of all types and colors; tulips, daisies, poppies, daffodils, lilies, and even some sunflowers that tower over all the other flowers. He lands in the tree and sits there, looking out over all the pretty flowers and the warm breeze blows by, ruffling his feathers as flower petals dance around in the air.

A girl walks into the field, looking for some flowers to pick and knowing this is the best place to come to for flowers. The sparrow doesn't notice her until she's right under the tree, bending over and carefully picking some of the daisies and daffodils that grow under the tree. She looks back down and forward, then starts to walk towards a small path the sparrow never noticed until now. As the girl goes past the treeline the sparrow takes off after her, quietly flapping his wings. One day the woman is visited by some young people who seem to be bent on disproving her clairvoyance and showing her up for the fraud they believe she is. Their plan is simple: they enter her house and ask the one question the answer to which rides solely on her difference from them, a difference they regard as a profound disability: her blindness. They stand before her, and one of them says, "Old woman, I hold in my hand a bird. Tell me whether it is living or dead."…

The bird represent the joyful life Mrs. Wright wants and use to have, and for Mr. Wright it represents his cruelty and abuse. The bird sings and provides warmth and joy for Mrs. Wright. The bird is a sign of cheerfulness in a bleary home. Mrs Hale states, "He didn't drink, and kept his word as well as most, I guess, and paid his debts. But he was a hard man, Mrs. Peters. Just to pass the time of day with him--." She stopped, shivered a little. "Like a raw wind that gets to the bone." Mr. Wright strangles the bird, once again neglecting his wife, trapping his wife in a bleary place, and being cruel and abusive.…

•The word shoot alludes to the first stages of growth of a plant as it emerges from the ground. By describing a shoot as ‘well watered’, the poem conveys ideas of lushness and fertility. However, rather than making a nest in a full grown tree, by making it in a shoot, the singing bird remains in a place of fragility, since it is easy to uproot or destroy a shoot…

The sun rose in a hurry, as if trying to make up for setting so early the evening before, bouncing into the sky line like a great fiery yo-yo and sending what was left of the moon packing. The sky, with blatant disregard for the overuse of alliteration, was a brilliantly bright baby blue, and perched picturesquely on the leafty branches of the trees in the park below, birds sang. A bit like Britney Spears without the eye candy.…

The freedom of the birds flying in the clouds brings me hope of flying through the heavens and liberating myself from all of my apprehension. It’s a place beyond, filled with butterflies and resounding music. Rivers flow into crystal clear sparkling brooks and streams, and where majestic palaces are built in diamonds and emeralds. A brilliantly coloured rainbow of the brightest blues, reds and yellows form an arch across the sky with shimmering gold oozing out of pots at the end. Grand, giant trees stand tall like soldiers that line heaven's pathway. Each green leaf is made of soft sensuous silk, which gently flops in the cool, fresh breeze. Hanging from the trees are the most succulent and juice fruit that drip with sweet nectar. Their skins are untainted and unblemished and they hang like glistening chandeliers. There are clusters of tantalizing mangoes and pomegranates, and rosy red apples with the pinkest of pink peaches. Vines full of fleshy, sweet smelling, blood red roses and golf ball sized grapes are found in abundance. Perched on the fruit tree are exotic birds that have the most vibrant coloured feathers. They sing in sweet, melodic voices that fill the serene air with charming music. Bedecked around the trees lie flowers with colours that you never knew existed, that have frilly petals that feel like smooth velvet. An array of pinks, purples, oranges and blues captivate my sight. The scent of fresh flowers calm my thoughts and sends me into a safe place. Heaven is my safe place.…
