Southwestern Energy Case
Q3 - OverallImpression
Based on your overall impression of Southwestern Energy and using a six-point scale where 6=a very positive impression and 1=a very negative impression, please tell me how you would rate the company.
"3 [6-pt scale]. If it's an absolute scale as an investment opportunity and I don't think you should own any energy stocks, they are an energy stock. Again, that's why I asked if it was a relative scale or not. On a relative scale, 3."
Q4 - OE_Strengths
What do you see as Southwestern Energy’s particular strengths as an investment?
"They have strong gas assets, particularly in the Marcellus. They have a disciplined investment strategy. Those are the two leading ones. The way they assess returns, the way they rank things is pretty disciplined."

"14%. Compliance will require me to open my model and tell you. You want a calendar 2018 number? When you say 'next 12 months,' that's ambiguous to me. Can I give you a 2018 production growth estimate? 14%."
Q12bb
How important is "Proactive risk management" to your investment decisions/recommendations about Southwestern Energy’s common stock? Please use a six-point scale where 6=extremely important and 1=not too important.
"3 [6-pt scale]. Risk can be a couple different things. From a hedging it's a 2. From an asset base it's probably a 4 or a 5. It's asked right after the financial question, so it sounds like it's more hedging related. Let me say 3. They are probably thinking financial when they ask it. It could be ESG, it could be asset quality, it could be investment opportunity, it could be hedging, and they're all really different."
Q12cc
How important is "Attractive margin expansion potential" to your investment decisions/recommendations about Southwestern Energy’s common stock? Please use a six-point scale where 6=extremely important and 1=not too

In the previous project assigned to me, I completed a SWOT analysis of Sirius XM Radio where it was noted that the Sirius XM is firmly at the top of its industry. For the purposes of this project, I went through the financial statements of Sirius XM as well as computed several key financial ratios to indicate Sirius XM’s profitability, growth, performance, and efficiency amongst other things. I then compared these ratios to the industry averages as well as with Sirius XM’s top competitors. After completing this close analysis, I found that although Sirius XM is enjoying incredible growth and a strong place in the market, there are still several flags that an investor should still note.…

    Southwest Case Analysis

Southwest has made an organization out of providing low-fare, short haul routes between city pairs. It has concentrated specifically on offering low-fares on all of its flights by maintaining its no frills attitude and high frequency of flights. This has afforded Southwest Airlines with the lowest cost structure in the industry. Southwest has created a niche for itself by flying a network of flights between smaller U.S. cities that average just one hour apart. This has differentiated them from their competition and avoided many clashes with industry giants who concentrate more on coast-to-coast flights. Kelleher, who is the president, chairman and CEO of Southwest Airlines is the companies single biggest asset and driving force. Kelleher runs the company very tightly and makes all the major decisions through a very centralized decision making process. This brings to light two potential problems. Firstly, how can a company such as Southwest airlines maintain such a centralized organization in the face of growth. Secondly, how is this company going to survive once Kelleher is no longer running it.…

    Chevron Analysis

Part I of this two part business analysis for Chevron covered the SWOT analysis where strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and trends were uncovered. That information was converted to statements of relevancy, which allowed the material to be understood by a broader scope of individuals that might not be savvy with deciphering a SWOT analysis. To continue the examination of Chevron and make a complete analysis worthy of making investment decisions, some criteria still needs to be assessed. Acquiring the most recent income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement is necessary for a complete evaluation of financial health. Experienced investors would suggest comparing the findings to similar corporations to create a reference point, but the ultimate measure of corporate financial health will be derived from health metrics, especially if performance sustainability is an issue (Richard Dobbs, 2005).…

Oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) companies are unique from a valuation standpoint. Because of this, investors need to focus on a different subset of ratios to analyze the growth and profitability of these companies. Company revenues are important, but focus should be on netback. The netback is calculated by taking all of the revenues from the oil, less all costs associated with getting the oil to a market. These costs can include, but are not limited to, importing, transportation, production and refining costs, and royalty fees. Oil and gas stocks are broken down into three parts:…
