Sound Devices In Edgar Allen Poe's Annabel Lee
Are you able to answer the question ‘What is the best way to communicate’ ? Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language to evoke meaning. Sound devices are poems that honor people important to the speaker or focus on the speaker's own identity. People can communicate with poetry in many ways talking about their relationships using sound devices such as rhyme, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and repetition. “Annabel Lee” was written by Edgar Allen Poe who was born in 1904 and passed away in 1949 . This poem shows that Edgar Allen Poe had great literary success but he suffered many personal losses in his life. In the poem the author uses repetition as his sound device. In the poem he states “In a kingdom by the sea” in lines 2, 8, 14, and 20. The speaker which is Edgar Allen Poe is mourning the death of the women who he loves so dearly. He states that nothing can ever separate his soul from Annabel Lee’s.

In this poem Raymond speaks about the civil rights leader Martin Luther King JR. Raymond uses the sound device rhyme in his couplet. In his first couplet he uses the words ‘age’ and ‘rage’ which both rhyme. Another example is in his second couplet in which he uses ‘wide and ‘aside’. Raymond Patterson expresses the very strong and powerful passion of Martin Luther Kings JR. “I’m Nobody-Who Are You? By Emily Dickinson who was born in Massachusetts in 1830 and died in 1886 was about the writer disliking being a well known person. In the quatrain the author uses rhyme to express her feelings. In the last couplet it she uses the words ‘dreary’ and ‘somebody’ which both rhyme. She also uses the words ‘frog and ‘bog’ which both also rhyme. Emily is expressing how much she scorns being a somebody which is also known as a celebrity because they don't get any private
