State of the Nation Address of His Excellency Raphael Anthony DL. Torres President of the Philippines To the Congress of the Philippines (Delivered at the Session Hall of the House of Representatives, Batasan Pambansa Complex, Quezon City, on January 12, 2013) Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Speaker of the House Feliciano Belmonte,Vice President Jejomar Binay, Justices of the Supreme Court, distinguished members of the diplomatic corps, honorable members of the House of Representatives and of the Senate, our leaders in the local government, members of our Cabinet, officers of the military and polic, my fellow public servants, and of course, to all the Filipinos now watching here and all over the world, a good day to all! We all know all the hardships that our country faced during the past year. Earthquakes, fires, landslides, deadly typhoons like Pablo and even deadlier rains such as Habagat. But despite all of this, the Philippines, is still a nation to be reckoned with. Ranking 17 th in the world as the most giving, we the Filipino people truly are one of the most selfless and loving people in the world, which only shows that even if we get hit by all these calamities several times and even do it all over again, we can still manage to stand up, help others and smile. That's why this year, we are ready to face whatever calamity may struck us, be it natural or man-made. This new year is not just a new start for all of us. It is also a reminder, not to look back in the past, the problems put on our shoulders by the past, and forget it and just instead, focus on the present and look forward to the future. If we are ready to face the natural and man-made calamities this year, then we are ready to face the face of the brand new Philippines! Even though I have been employed more than once, I do not recall ever receiving an actual performance evaluation experience. Most of the time I would either get an appraisal or a complaint by my fellow coworkers or supervisor. During my employments in the hospital, I only worked there for a couple of months. Despite having worked at a private practice for a year and a half, I never received a performance evaluation experience. However, as a student, I have undergone performance evaluation experiences while participating in some of the SONA studies. As a student taking psychology courses, it is my duty to participate in the SONA studies due to specific requirements in my courses or for extra credit in the course. Most of the surveys are formatted…

From having to assimilate to a new culture, my family left many of our loved ones behind and this fact would resonate strongly years later. In response, my parents saved money to allow my family to visit the Philippines every four years. From my growth from childhood to adolescence, making my trip back to the Philippines taught me a lesson every visit. From being unable to be with family in the Philippines as they suffered from illness to seeing the poverty-stricken life of the people in Pampanga, I have developed a deep appreciation of the opportunities I have been…

I have heard pretty much more or less about 10 State of the Nation Addresses by many presidents. They all have told pretty much the same common and general thing, that they being the president of the country for this year have done so much to help the Philippines. With investments coming in, roads and buildings constructed, health, education and insurance growths. Believe me when I say I have heard it all. Pnoy’s SONA is pretty much the same things I have heard other presidents say. They boast numerous and countless achievements in their term but still I have never yet to hear a truthful lay down of the Philippines in pretty much every SONA.…

Relation with other nations is one of the most important things for the United States of America today. As history have shown, the need for the connection with other countries had been existing since the late exploration period, where United States had just achieved their independence from the British monarchy and began their own conquest around the globe. The Americans are the second, yet the most celebrated colonizer of the Philippines. Until today, the Filipino-American bond is evident, from the highlighted date of July 4 as the Filipino-American friendship day, through Filipinos being the most excellent speaker and teacher of the English language in Asia, to the full coverage of the inauguration of the new leader of the US, President Barrack Obama. The camaraderie of the two nations has come a very long way.…

Based on the past State of the Nation Address of President Aquino, critics said that, this State of the Nation Address is not clearly stating the change that they expected to be. The changes within his term is expected to be evident and must lift the Philippines from being the “Sick Man of Asia” to the “Rising Country in Asia”. But for me, I guess for about 5 years of his term, I find him and his works in making everything possible is evident through his achievements.…

For all the things she have done to our country, for choosing to run as a president after the People Power, for all her bravery, many Filipinos showed their sympathy to the whole Aquino family when Corazon died due to her illness of Colon Cancer last August 1, 2009. It’s like the whole archipelago mourned, watched as she was laid at her last place on earth. Even though she’s not present here anymore, her presence still lasts. She is the woman that the Philippine History and future generations of Filipinos will never forget.…

You know I am not from here, I guess that’s obvious, but in many ways, I share the same values that you are taught in this school. La Salle has always made a point to stand for truth and accountability—with my mother during our struggle against the dictatorship, or during the decades after we reclaimed democracy through People Power. Despite being from the other school, I also have a special fondness for this…
