Somewhere In Dallas: A Short Story
Somewhere in Dallas there two best friends. They both think ball is life. Both of them are in the CBA. On the school basketball team. They both hate school and are bad students. The only reason they go to school is because the law and friends. Basketball is the second most important thing to them. Family first, then basketball second.
Frist, Dirk, and Steve are players in the CBA. In Dallas, Texas there is a court. There is a rusty rim, and there are huge holes in it. Steve is a great point guard, but he is the best shooter on the team. Dirk is a power forward his best ability is inside scoring, he has an amazing post fade way and he is a great shooter. James is a small forward, he always travels when he goes up for layups and he cannot shot. …show more content…
They sat up the IPad for four quarts and six minutes. They wanted to skip breakfast. But Dirk’s mom would not let them. Then they walked to the court and got ready. They shot around and got their shot warmed up so they would not be cold in their game. At 10:56 James and Kevin came there with a LeBron James ball. When they all got ready they shot for the ball. Steve and Dirk were better shooters so they got first ball. Both teams made their game plans. Steve reminded Dirk to set screens. And for him to take the shot or for Steve to pass the ball to Dirk. For what felt like ages they finally checked up. Steve had the ball Dirk called for the ball and Steve fed him the rock. Dirk caught it and did a fake. James fell for it and jumped up. Dirk took the shot and knocked it down. It was in the second quarter and it was a close game. Dirk had the ball and was slashing. He got punched in the mouth. He was bleeding from it. He cleaned it off with his shirt and they just got the ball. In the third Steve and Dirk was down. Kevin had it 5 seconds left took a shot before the buzzer but Steve blocked it. In the fourth they were down by two Dirk made it with 10 seconds left and tied it. James had the ball with 6 seconds. He saw Kevin but Dirk stole it. Passed it to Steve and He knocked down a 3 to

    Our trip to Texas Southern was overall very interesting. We briefly visited with Dr. Thomas Freeman and learned about his long, incredible life, but before that, we walked some of the halls containing mural after mural. Many are elaborate paintings of various elements of the black lives matter movement. Others, like the police brutality mural, have connotations to today’s world and the injustices African American people face on a day to day basis. Ironically Mr. Whalen, “who talked long and seriously to Marvin about sportsmanship,” (433) ends up getting into a brawl at one of Marvin’s basketball game over this.     Unit Three Chapter 18 Writing Assignment During the late 1800’s to early 1900’s women in the west were valued in their work in the home, on the streets and some women during this time played the same roles as men being Cowgirls. However, women mainly held their responsibilities in the home. Women played the role of a wife, a mother, a seamstress and often nurses. Their domestic duties including raising their children, farm work, gathering food and milk along with utilizing their sewing skills. These women had much to do while often their husband is out looking for gold, working from dusk to dawn laboring and doing the other duties that were not as common for the wives to be doing. Often there was so much work to be done in the home that women would have their children assist them with household duties and work on the farm by age nine. Women of this time spent many hours at home and away from their husbands. Labor jobs seemed to be an excellent job during the right season. The Cowboy and the migrant worker; Mexicans, Chinese, and even African Americans would round up cattle. In return of the labor of walking thousands of miles and herding 100’s of cattle they would get paid a hefty amount of money. There were about 25% of black cowboys that would work as Cowboys during the years of 1870-1885. Some African American’s were so skilled that one particularly Bill Pickett being called the “Greatest Cowboy” winning competitions with the reputation of his tricks and stunts. Many of these cowboys during this time were making a lot of money. With the money that they would make they would often go into town and spend or blow their money on working women. Many women now have been tired of working in the home and not feeling respected. They were tired of not being paid the amount they felt was necessary to survive.
