Someone Help!
On a warm summer day, I decided to take my children out to eat, just us. We went to Long John Silvers for fish. We walked into the restaurant; I noticed how crowded it was. The children and I placed our order, got it and took it over next to the window, so we could look outside and watch the passer-byers. We said our blessings and started eating, laughing at each other’s jokes and just enjoying the day together.
After 25-30 minutes I heard someone coughing and gagging. My daughter states,” Mommie it’s that man over there he’s turning BLUE!” I told my children to stay in their sits and not to get up. I went over to him and asked,” Are you choking?” He nodded his head yes. His wife was in tears saying, “Please, oh please, help him.” I asked him to open his mouth, so I could see if there was anything I could see, but nothing. I went behind him to start the Heimlich maneuver, I was having trouble getting my arms around him, (he was a very large built man) I continued to try the Heimlich maneuver. I yelled out to the crowd, “Help, someone help, call 911!”
Then all of a sudden he passes out. As I was holding him with my body, I lowered him to the floor and stared CPR. I did the abdominal thrust several times, I checked his mouth again, and there it was, a big piece of unchewed hush puppy lodged in his throat. I took my finger and did the finger sweep threw the hush puppy across the room.
I checked for a heartbeat, and then checked if he was breathing, still not breathing but had a faint heartbeat. I cried out, “Please someone HELP me”, “anyone PLEASE”, but no one came. By this time 15 minutes had went by but it seemed so much longer. My arms were so tired but I knew I couldn’t stop. I continued CPR, I saw the ambulance pulling in. About that time the man started coughing and gasping for air, he looked up at his wife

I first put on Neosporin, which makes the child cry a little more. He starts to calm down after I place a band-aid on him. His mother thanks me for my help.…

This document, titled Frosh Camp @ Camp NaCoMe, has multiple different features and lots of information. The title itself is formatted in a certain way for a reason. The words “Frosh Camp” are very bold and in Memphis blue; whereas the words “@ Camp NaCoMe” are in grey and much less bold. The author of this document made it this way because Frosh Camp is the main subject and is meant to be more noticed than the location of the camp. Because the background of the main part of the advertisement is white, the blue stands out even more. Besides the title, the first thing you notice is the two large pictures in the foreground at the top of the page. These pictures show Frosh Camp campers in 1994 and 2012. They are inside a green circle to represent a fun atmosphere verses placing the pictures in the standard square. In the background there are a few, big light blue polka dots the author placed just to add a little more fun and color to the page. The 2012 picture shows people of all different types and ethnicities. With an audience of University of Memphis 2012 freshman, this is a very good thing to show because people won’t worry about fitting in. Next, your eyes guide to the text underneath. With the words “You”, “hundred years”, and “never forget” being bolded in the sentence, that alone makes you curious about the camp.…

Sunday nights cars parked all over the front yard. Shouts and laughter everywhere, as I walked towards the back of the house I was greeted by dozens of people. The seizing stopped mid way, unfortunately, his consciousness was never regained. Soon after our arrival, his heart stopped. No paramedic or doctor could bring him back. So there I was, standing over his dead body lying in that hospital bed, hearing the doctors explain how he died from a brain hemorrhage and how there was nothing they could have done, or that I could have done, to have seen it coming. And in that moment, looking at this pale stranger, all I could think of was how I wish I grabbed some pants before I left the house. All that I could resurface about my current predicament was how ridiculous I must look leaning over this shell of a man that I once surrounded my life upon wearing nothing but an undershirt and his pair of lucky charmed boxers. How silly I must have looked in that deadman’s…

He hugged me tight and told me repeatedly, “It’s going to be ok baby! Be strong! I love you so much!” The doctor grabs a scalpel and forceps and the pain consumes me. I let out shrilling cry and then my body collapses as the pain diminishes from what would be a ten on the pain scale, to a four or five. Then we heard the baby scream as the doctor placed him on my chest. Overwhelmed with joy, we began to sob.…

Since the situation was new to me I didn't really know what to do. From the back of my mind I recalled hearing that you should stay with someone who was seizing and keep them from "swallowing their tongue". I helped him to lie down on his side and got one of the other kids to help by getting paper towels to wipe up the spittle. Mostly I just stayed with him until his mom met us on the side of the road.…
