In conclusion, both of these authors have a different take on how America should deal with the imperative eradication of racial discrimination and inequality, but it is Jenkins, who in the end, through the masterful use of the logos rhetorical appeal, didactic abilities, and informative style, makes the stronger case. Jenkins' capacity to look to the past to understand racial inequality, his way of confronting America on the need to accept its racial discrimination history, and his capacity to envision different solutions, help the reader perceive his arguments in a more compelling and clear way.…

“Stereotypes and Slippery slopes were another way DuBois approaches cultural oppression. “Stereotypes rely on categorizing large groups of people in particular ways even without any personal knowledge or experience with group members. Attributes become rigidly held and contradictory information is dismissed or discredited.” (Erikson, 2014: class notes) Society influences stereotypes and the way people perceive others. Dubois talks about the way society uses the term white and how it refers to everything that is good, pure, and decent. In contrast the term black refers to everything that is despicable, ignorant, and that instill fear. (Allan, 2011)” (Booker, 2014)…

In my opinion, the most societal problem in our country is vandalism. It is because several factors and normally done by naughty and problematic teenagers at the age around 14 to early 20’s. According to dictionary, vandalism is wilful or malicious destruction of public or private property. The problems happens when there is behaviour or action done by people especially teenagers in spoiling the original functions of the public or private property without permission and acknowledgement of the owner. Our communities also labelled them as irresponsible people. There are a few examples of vandalism that we can see everywhere such as spray painting a wall with graffiti, spoil the function of public phone and a damage road signboard. Those actions give problems to our society and also can give a bad image to our country. Relatively, it will give indirect impact to our government performance in handling issues in our country. Social problems, also called social issues, affect every society, great and small. Even in relatively isolated, sparsely populated areas, a group will encounter social problems. Part of this is due to the fact that any members of a society living close enough together will have conflicts. It’s virtually impossible to avoid them, and even people who live together in the same house don’t always get along seamlessly. On the whole though, when social problems are mentioned they tend to refer to the problems that affect people living together in a society.…
Anderson feels the reason violent crimes exist in the inner city stems from the type of life experienced by those living in the ghetto. They are faced with very few jobs that pay enough to live on, racial stigmas, as well as the effects of drug use and trafficking. They end up feeling alienated and unable to see any hope for the future, which can, and does, lead to aggressive behavior.…

On the first day of Social Problems class we were introduced to Charles Dickens’ phrase, “Power in itself is not a bad thing, its how we use that power, whether to help or destroy”. Governments and government related jobs hold utmost power when it comes to managing issues that are referred to as actual social problems. I feel this is where Canada really distinguishes itself from the U.S., deciding to be more of a righteous/peace keeping country, rather than a selfish/intimidating super force.…
