Social Work Case Study Carroll
Making the decision to work in this field after I graduate from Carroll would allow me to still make a difference within individual’s lives. Rather than focusing on the family as a whole I would be focused on what I believed was best for the child. Although as every case comes through it would be handled differently from one another. During the year 2012 CPS received 6.3 million reports about a child and their household needing to be investigated (Children’s Bureau, 2012). Although, out of the 6.3 million reported cases only 62 percent of the reported cases received further investigation while the other 38 percent of the reported cases received no further investigation (Children’s Bureau, 2012). I believe that the causes that are going

I wanted to bring to your attention some issues that I had about a professor in the school of social work, J. Breezer Rickey. I had her for SOWK 370 this fall. As a social worker, I feel that her sense of empathy for her students is not present in her daily interactions with students. She has made several rude comments to me (which I have attached as a PDF to this email), and those comments have made my self-esteem go down a considerable amount. A social worker should life people up, not bring them down, as is the situation here.…

This essay will identify a case I have been involved in and have continuously had to assess whilst on placement. It will refer to a child who will be identified as A. A is a young carer and has only recently returned home after being removed from his mothers care due to her having a substance abuse problem and mental health concerns. I will link the legal framework that was relevant to this case study and describe actions taken. Additionally these actions will demonstrate the application of social work methods and theories that were contributive elements in his intervention, offering explanations as to why these particular methods were used. Before closing, the essay will review any issues of discrimination with a reflection of the overall process of working with this child throughout the duration of my placement and end with a conclusion.…

I began to take interest in the Child Protective Service procedures because of all the neglect I have seen in the news, mainly the Jaycee Dugard ordeal. Another recent Child Protective Service blunder was the case of Ariel Castro, who abducted three girls ten years ago. It’s baffling to me that Child Protective Service case workers can visit a residence and not completely investigate the situation. There have been many circumstances where this has happened, and come to find out, children were being held captive in the home and not discovered until much later. Also, many children have unjustly been removed from homes and placed in far worse environments. Child Protective Services has veered away from helping families to corruption and harming families. These mistakes have also led to the use of children to make money and an overall failure to protect our children. Many changes need to be made to make Child Protective Services a reliable, lawful and respectable organization again.…

In my exploration of different populations in the social work field, I interned at San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) in order to learn more about the population diagnosed with developmental disabilities. I received insight into the dynamics of caring for people with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other conditions of the like and learned about the various ways such a population is disenfranchised and taken advantage of outside organizations that cater specifically to them.…

Unless otherwise cited, the career information presented in this paper was obtained from O8Net on-line (National Center for O*Net Development, 20??). Through the O*Net assessments I received a 28 in the category of social. The social category was the highest number compared to the next high of 14 in investigative. After looking through careers in the social category I felt the need to further research mental health and substance abuse social workers. I currently work in the field of mental health and substance abuse as a crisis counselor. I had seriously thought about going back to school to get my masters in social work after talking to making social work co-workers. However there were many aspects of the job that I disliked, but I wanted…

CPS specializes in the care and protection of children who are underage. CPS “is required by law to investigate reports of child abuse or neglect” (Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, 2013). This is one of the most popular health and human services in Texas. CPS is widely known for their unwaivable desire to go to any measure to protect a child. Even though they are determined to bring justice, there are still some flaws that plague this program. The employees that work for CPS have complained of “staffing shortages, lack of communication between state agencies, and what they are sometimes unrealistic evidentiary thresholds needed to remove kids from dangerous homes” (Hirschfeld, 2014, p.1). Many of these issues are why CPS has a shaky reputation. It is often said that CPS is being too harsh or they are not harsh enough. It is possible that because they do not have enough staff members, their productivity is falling short. This program, like many of the others, are trying to put on their best performance in the conditions that work…

In the 19th century, the U.S. was faced with a spate of immigrants (Ehrenreich, 2014). In fact, immigration patterns in the early 19th century included high levels of immigration from across the world, while legislation by the late 19th century limited immigration from many parts of world and encouraged immigration from Europe. Meanwhile, land was abundant in the early 19th century, leading to relatively high wages and a labor shortage. Yet, by the turn of the 20th century, industrialization had decreased the need for labor in agricultural sectors, while unions began to become popular, indicating a trend away from labor shortage and towards poor working conditions and poverty for many…

The difficult part was the service users that I worked with had their own diverse values and that is where I experienced some tensions and dilemmas as to what was the right thing to be doing came up. Different people had different views on what creates risk. In my position as a Social Worker it needs the ability to identify and balance values of benefits and harms, taking into consideration where one’s own value base impacts on the decision making and where we can support people to achieve the best outcomes, using professional rather than personal values. However we are guided by the purpose of the organisation we are employed in, as well as the legal and policy parameters of our society. Additionally, it would appear that the focus of social…
