INTRODUCTION
Questions have been raised about the difficulties faced in recruiting full time staff for minimal jobs. Davidsons have failed to tackle this problem even after putting in practice new strategies in order to motivate, recruit and retain employees working fulltime, such as high, competitive wages and other additional benefits. This report will focus on the external, rather than the internal factors which will bring awareness to the external forces that restrict the desired quantity and quality of staff at their set wage. Likewise, an overview of the impact of population and social trends will be examined upon recruiting full time employees.

KEY SOCIAL TRENDS AND THEIR IMPACT ON SOCIAL TRENDS
First of all, family structures have changed and augmented in the last decade, affecting the household structure and the work-life balance. Davidsons targeted workforce is primarily women whereby a potential targeted group is mothers with children. There has been an increase in divorce rates and lower marriage rates leading to a higher number of lone-parents and multiple families, with the likelihood of affecting poverty in the majority of these households. Before the 1970s, divorces remained under 58, 239 however in 2011 divorces rates reached 117, 558 increasing the number of lone parents (Office for National Statistics, 2011). Statistics show that lone parents have lower employment rates compared to couple-parents with dependent children. A great number of lone parents are unable to take up jobs and prefer to receive some form of Government benefits and some will take up part time jobs in order to devote half of their time to the care of their dependent children. For example, in 2008, only 933 lone mothers were employed because they find it
