Social Observation Paper
While traveling to various cities in Ecuador, I learned that social classes influence your neighborhood, appearance, education, and even your last name. However, there is little social mobility. While interviewing Ricardo, he stated that people born in the lowest class will usually remain there for the rest of their lives, giving a sense of superiority to members of the upper class. Although few people state their aversion to the lower class, I witnessed many behavioral indicators that would suggest it. Living in the suburbs of Guayaquil instead of the “downtown” area is more desirable, in spite of the fact that many businesses are located downtown. Additionally, the upper class neighborhoods within the suburbs are usually guarded by wrought
