Social networking is all about the new generation. Nowadays, children and adults love to spend their time on Internet websites that connect them with each other, and these websites was called social networks. “Any Web locale that permits communal contact is believed a communal mass media locale, encompassing communal networking locations such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter”( Schurgin.G, Clarke.K). These websites take a long time from humans’ lives and leave them busy chatting with people they know or people they never met before. Adults and teenagers are mostly like to use these websites because they make friends there. As it says in the article “Texting, Sexting And Social Networking Among Australian Youth And The Need For Cyber Safety Education “Social networking continues to be a “cool new tool,” and young people world wide stay connected with networking software, with its capacity to support peer interaction and friendship”(McLoughlin, & Burgess, 2009). Also according to Lenhart and Madden, “Adults are much less likely than teens to have a profile on a social network website. About three in ten (35%) adult internet users age 18 and older have a profile on a social networking site like MySpace, Facebook or LinkedIn”(2007). How ever, teenagers are twice as likely as adults in use of these websites. Some others use it because they do not have friends in real life and they wish to make new but somehow they are afraid, and they can write anything they want to say without any fear by using social networks. Social networking technology does affect negatively on people as it causes family problems, it can be dangerous for people and it can change behavior for the worse.

Social networking causes many family problems that can affect relations. As a fact, family relations are sensitive and small problems can turn to big

Social media affects our kid's feelings of loneliness, separating them from the real world and increasing their feelings of depression. For instance, social media spread news of engagement and breakups, job gain and losses, passing test or failing, or news of life or death. It's easy for our kids to become overwhelmed with all the news. Social media also leads our kids to social isolation, especially, when the kids spent most oft the time on social media and reduce the chances of actual social communication. In addition, social media affects family cohesion. Social media makes our kids independent from the parent's involvement in their social lives. Our kids see social media as one way of gaining freedom from over- involvement and instruction from their parents. Kids prefer to stay in their rooms sitting behind a phone or a computer screen, chatting, texting, playing or meeting new people rather than sitting with the family. Like a mother was complaining to me about her teenage son the other day. He was very fond of painting, but recently, he lost interest in his hobby, he spent most of his time on social media. She noticed that sitting behind the screen affected his eyes and body, and he miss the opportunity to develop his personality and learn social skills. He stay up late chatting with friends or uploading pictures on Facebook, and he barely wakes up in the morning. This is one mother and I'm sure there is many…

The journal "The Impact of Social Media on Children, Adolescents, and Families." defines social media as “any website that allows social interaction, including social networking”(O’Keeffe n.p). This journal explains how predications can help families understand the websites and suggests ways to monitor their children. The journal illuminates some good aspects of social media, such as opportunities for community engagement, enhancement of individual and collective creativity, and fostering one’s identity of social skills. Some social media programs create learning opportunities. However the journal articulates the bad side to social media, as the journal explains it opens up opportunities for cyber bullying, and life-threatening privacy concerns. This journal provides the reader with knowledge of both sides of the social media argument and is a very good resource. The authors of the journal are actual pediatricians who can provide in depth factual knowledge and experience. Gwenn Schurgin O'Keeffe, and Kathleen Clarke-Pearson are pediatricians whose journal provides information on both sides of the social-media argument based on their backgrounds.…

Although social media such as Facebook and My Space gives children that are normally anti-social a way to interact and be creative with their peers , it has also become a medium of bullying and harassment. This has a negative effect on those children that are trying to come out of their anti-social ways. According to a study done by Dr. Rosen, he stated that teens who often use Facebook tend to be more narcissistic, whereas young adults show signs of psychological disorders which include antisocial behaviors and aggressive tendencies. Youth who overuse media and technology are more prone to anxiety, depression and other psychological disorders. This overuse also makes them prone to future health problem. Social Networking is a growing media that most of the population either uses or is at least aware of. In January 2010 incites had conducted an online survey with 2,884 consumers from over 14 countries, between the ages of 18-55. More than 90% had at least known of Social Networking and 72% have had at least one social networking site in their life (Raymond Tay). This means that if you were to stand in a room full of people and ask who has a Social Network page, most likely more than half the room would raise their hands. Many children have access to the Internet whether it is by computer, smartphone, tablet or other different types of electronics. Parents allow their children access to the Internet, but a majority of parents don’t have control over their child’s usage. There are websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and Instagram, in which many children under the age of 15 and under have profiles. Social media allows people to interact with other users, whether it is people they know in person or even with strangers. It allows people to share their lives with the online world and it all happens with the use of social media. However, there have been many reports of cyber bullying, privacy concerns and many other different crimes being committed on the Internet. Therefore, in today’s world the Internet is not a 100% safe and secure environment. On the Internet, there are thousands of pictures of alcohol, tobacco and sexual behaviors and every user has access to the inappropriate pictures. With social media, teenagers have access to see adults give their thoughts about drugs, sex and alcohol and the opinion of those people may influence the minds of children. At a young age, children are affected and influenced by adults and even manipulated by adults on the Internet which makes it hazardous for them to have social media accounts. There are Internet users who spend all their time on the Internet, only to chat with anonymous strangers and there is a possibility of meeting sexual predators in the Internet. Therefore, children that are fifteen years of age and under must not have social media accounts because social media has negative effects on their grades, impacts human behavior and also leads to privacy issues.…

Social networking affects our lives in many ways, including our communication, self- expression, bullying, isolations, friendships, and even our very own sense of humanity.…

This is an article telling the story about a girl named Amy (her real name was changed for the article) who gets involved with a man named Bill online through a chat room, and how he was able to manipulate Amy into thinking he loves her and that she was the only one he’d met online. As the story continues, Amy sneaks out to meet Bill who then sexually assaults her. He eventually tells Amy the truth that she isn’t the first girl he had met from the internet and she realizes then that she had been, as she put it, “suckered”. This article shares a story that grabs people’s attention and helps them visualize just how an online predator can manipulate children and adolescents to the predator’s desires. Anne Collier has done a few articles relating to the safety of children online. This particular article is shared on NetSmartz which is hosted by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which is a reparable organization and I think a valuable resource.…
