Social Networking Sites Bring More Potential Problems
Introduction
The topic that I selected is ‘social networking sites is really well for students, or bring them more potential problems’. The two articles that I chose are respectively focused on the potential problem in future career for undergraduate caused by SNS, and how SNS transform the relationship between students and teachers.

In this article ‘Students and social networking sites: the posting paradox’, Millera, Parsonsb and Liferb (2009) point out that social networking sites (SNS) has been the most popular tool for undergraduate students at both communication and entertainment aspect. However, the contents that students update and shared on the websites often become a kind of material which will affect their future career to some degree. The authors (2009) explain how SNS produce negative impact for students when they find jobs by using the approach of investigation report.

The authors (2009) state that student submit their personal information to SNS in order to share with their friends and known-audience, but in fact their information are often used by employers to obtain the background information which cannot be easily achieved by face-to-face interview, such as marital status, sexual orientation, religious affiliation and so on. According to the data, the authors (2009) also note that majority of internet investigations cause the negative effect to the candidates; a little part of interviewee even lost the relevant job for this reason. More surprisingly, figure show that 34% of candidates do not realize that sharing content on social networking website will bring them such serious consequence (2009).

The authors (2009) analysis that students visit SNS for three basically purposes which are sharing feelings, viewing the link that friend shared and update pictures. It gives the opportunity for employers to understand what kinds of person the applicants often touch with, and what style of information they concern about. The authors (2009)

As social networking sites continue to grow on a daily basis, so do the potential risks that come alongside using them. The continuous growth of sites such as Facebook is especially now being seen in increasingly high usage by hiring managers and human resource professionals. These hiring managers now use sites like Facebook in attempts to find out more specific information about the job ctoria R. Brown, 2011). Although some people may believe that Facebook facilitates the hiring process, I believe that Facebook can have a very negative effect on many different aspects of employment. I do not think that by looking at an applicant’s Facebook profile, hiring managers can appropriately judge if an applicant is an eligible candidate for the job or not. Through a Facebook profile, I think that not only a job applicant is at risk, but also a manager could be at risk of making a preferential consideration of the applicant, also relating to the validity of how one’s Facebook profile relates to the job.…

“Could Your Facebook Profile Throw a Wrench in Your Future?” discusses the danger to future employment posed by information posted by students on Facebook (Dince 44-48). While some of the information in the article seems somewhat out of date, but the overall point of the essay remains relevant: You should be careful about what you put on your Facebook page because employers may be looking at it. Some people may be offended by this and it is certainly not very professional for an employer to go to great efforts to find out private information about you, but job applicants should not be surprised if employers choose to look for information about them on the Internet.…

This all may seem harmless but actually, is just the opposite. In fact the interaction a person has with a social network is increasingly being used against more and more people each day. According to Lori Andrews, a law professor and expert on social networks and privacy and author of I Know Who You Are And I Saw What You Did. She identifies the web as a “lawless frontier of hidden and unpredictable dangers” (27). In her book she discusses how by opening up about our personal lives in the social world we are subject to surveillance not only by the government, but also by employers, schools and even lawyers. A common trend Andrews is seeing is that colleges and employers…
