Social media is affecting the mental health of teens. One reason social media is affecting teens is because it's addictive. Many students will get on social media instead of doing things like homework or studying. Some students will wake up in the middle of the night just to get on social media. Another reason is because teens can lose sleep from using social media at night. A new study has found that teens that use social media at night lose sleep and have an increased risk of anxiety and depression. Teens need at least 9.5 hours of sleep at night to be healthy, but most only average about 7.5 a night.
