SOCIAL ISSUE (Child labor)

A damaging social condition can be identified as a certain lethal factor in a society evoking distress and uncertainty. This damaging social condition becomes a social problem when a number of competing needs linger for long. I will primarily focus on Pakistan in addressing one of its well known social problem or interpreted as a problem i.e. “CHILD LABOR”. I think that most of the social problems are interrelated and same is the case in Pakistan e.g. child labour, poverty, illiteracy, population growth, diseases, terrorism, smuggling, drug abuse etc are directly or indirectly related to each other.
The core issue of my discussion will be child labor, child Labour is a social issue within Pakistan and in many developing countries and is considered a violation of human rights by the United Nations. Pakistani society engulfs a poor child in the hardships of life which they don’t deserve and deserve books, toys, games, cartoons, happiness in their life. Because of child labor a child can quite conveniently be deprived of basic education, at the age of nine and ten they feed their whole families and at times are the sole bread earners for their family. In most of the societies anyone up to the age of eighteen is a child and his basic right is to receive education and proper upbringing rather than use his little palms to destroy his/her own bright future which leads to killing of potential talent, skills which could prove fruitful for Pakistan. Children are especially exploited in the third world countries as they are a cheap source of labour and Pakistani children are used as labourers in the Sports Industry, Carpet Industry, Footwear, glassware production etc. With my own eyes

Child labour is often seen only to occur in third world countries but this is not the case. Child labour occurs all over the world and the brutality and cruelty of this work varies. Although child labour is seen as a bad thing, for the children and families living in their poor conditions, child labour is seen as necessary for the family to live as it is an essential income. UNICEF estimates that around 150 million children aged 5-14 in developing countries, about 16 per cent of all children in this age group, are involved in child labour. Therefore child labour is still a big problem in our world today especially as some children are forced to work in dangerous, unhygienic, life threatening conditions. Not only does is it harmful to their physical body it also effects their education as some children drop out of education to work. Even though many organisations and charities attempt to stop child labour or at least make the conditions suitable for children, child labour is still seen as a big problem in the 20th century.…

Two hundred million children are suffering in the world! “the world has an estimated 186 million child labourers – 5,7 million in forced and bonded labor, 1.8 million in prostitution, and 0.3 million in armed conflict” .( Basu & Tzannatos, 2003, p.147). In Africa, Asia and the Middle East, a huge number of children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they are working hard as same as adults; they are working long hours every day, and work in harsh, dangerous and harmful conditions. They can’t have normal lives as other children; they can’t go to school and stay with their families, because they must earn money for themselves and their families. Some of child labourers are even used as collateral for loan; their parents use them to obtain money. Finally, a child labour work as a slave, and no future for him. Child labour already becomes a huge and serious problem, and governments must have a law to protect and free the children from child labour, because it causes children have poor education, be abused, and only can get tiny income.…

In the article “Child Labor Pros and Cons”, the author discusses the importance of child labor in many families, saying, “In poor countries like Bangladesh, working children are essential for survival of many families” (1). In many areas in which child labor is common, financial stability is lacking. For example, Bangladesh, a third world country, legally employs children ages fourteen and up. One main reason many children work in this country is to bring in income in order to help support their families. Without their financial support, families would be unable to afford housing, food, clothing, and other necessities that they are otherwise to purchase. Although working as a child is far from ideal, it helps both the child and their family to have what they need to live…

As a young citizen of Canada, I consider it my responsibility to educate myself about different issues, both local and global. I realize that I am very lucky to live the lifestyle I do, and I am quite passionate about making the world a better place, especially for children. An issue that concerns me is child labour. Child Labour has been an issue since the 1700s, with the Industrial Revolution, and the appearance of factories. By 1810, two hundred million children were involved in child labour. According to World Vision, child labour can be found in nearly every country, and about two hundred and eighteen million children are involved in child labour today. Children are often targeted because of their vulnerability, and they accept repetitive and hazardous work willingly because they may not have other choices. Some contributors to child labour may be poverty, child soldiering, discrimination, traditional culture practices, gender inequality, HIV, AIDS, and many more.…

It is an unfortunate manifestation of economic compulsion as well as socio cultural perceptions. Child labour is a complex problem which is deeply rooted on ground of poverty. India doesn't have appreciable position in terms of child labour and according to the surveys; India has the largest number of working children in the world. There are many sectors in which children are void of their fundamental rights, they don’t go school and many of them started working at very short age. Many cases have got screens which display the misfortune of these children but justice to their path is still behind the mist. Everyone knows Pakistan is a struggling and developing country as is India and some other countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Nepal, and Mexico. When I read this case I thought a lot about it, then I tried to compare this situation with my Home Country. I didn’t see that much difference between Child labor in my country and in the Pakistan Child Labor Case. I have seen this situation in my life. Probably my thinking is also the same as contractor manager Mr. Mohammad Ahmed. It may be all of these reasons combined. Think about it this way: if one country is suffering from all these major problems, how can that country be a developed country? Is there any relevant answer?…
