Social Injustice In The 1800's

At least once in every lifetime a human will experience unfairness. Unfortunately, this unfairness can become a trend and become an injustice. Injustice could mean violating the rights of others or going through an unfair action or treatment. In the 1830’s, Native Americans experienced social injustice and unfortunately social injustice still exists today, just with gender inequality, specifically women's rights. Both injustices happened due to an urge of wanting a personal gain. In other words, the injustice occurs because there is a reward that will benefit the group of people who start the injustice. Similarly, this acceptance and diversity issue still exists today, especially when it comes to women's right. For instance, females who work in the technology industry such as Ellen Pao’s are facing discrimination everyday; by being denied a promotion and unable to attend meetings in thier workplace due to their gender. Ellen Pao is a woman who filed a lawsuit against the firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, for discriminating her and dismissing her in 2012 due to her gender.Sadly, she lost the case but, inspired many women to speak up for themselves, and was a voice to those who were going through the same discrimination in their workplaces. Another example of a women being denied a promotion is when an employee from Google (who now works for Slacker) Erica Baker created a spreadsheet for employees to record their salaries to share the data with the company. Erica was penalized for creating the spreadsheet and realized employees are able to give each other $150 bonuses for good work but seven of the bonus she received were all denied by her manager. Statistically speaking, in 2013 only 26% of computer jobs were held by womenand “68% of women surveyed believe gender discrimination exist in their workplace.” Discrimination in this case is a form of injustice because women …show more content…
The Natives and women are different from each other, but not too different, they both have a brain, a heart and are human and so are men and any American. The concepts of letting go of the past, and encouraging change and growth are what is missing. The Natives went through limited freedom with the reservation and today women are still going through limited freedom such as not being able to attend a meeting because they are a woman, but, those limits are slowly evaporating. With new generational concepts such as the difference between a boss and leader the acceptance of diversity within humans will grow. The growth will provide an end to all different types of injustices such as gender inequality, racism because as Ellen DeGeneres said "I believe that we can all come together, because if you take away the labels, you realize that we are far more alike than we are
