So-Democratic School: Personal Narrative Analysis
COLLAPSE
Education is something that is followed by every human on earth, even animals. From a young age our education begins with how to tie our shoes, as we get older we learn how to read or write and so on. With this being said we, as people, can not hide from education, so it is up to us to turn our learning experiences into a positive or negative one.

Furthermore, if you would decide to turn your learning experience into a positive one, you could look on the bright side to anything that might, at first seem like a down fall. For example, when I was in the sixth grade I had gotten a horrible grade on my report card. My mom told me that I was going to be a hamburger flipper for the rest of my life. Instead of taking this in a negative way, i figured out what my problem was and fixed it. I decided to take the positive out look on a not so good situation and turn it into my own success.

As a child it was very hard for me to learn, I used to have a difficult time sitting down and paying attention for a long period of time. I wish that when I was in school, before college, my school would have tired to focus on each persons learning ability instead of the easiest one learning

Education should be used with a purpose and that purpose is to learn, to educate, and to help students become successfully academically. However, that is not always the case. Education at times is used for all the wrong reasons. “Repeatedly, Americans have followed a common pattern in devising educational prescriptions for specific social or economic ills. Once they had discovered a problem, they labeled it and taught a course on the subject: alcohol or drug instruction to fight addictions; sex education to combat syphilis or AIDS; home economics to lower the divorce rate; driver education to eliminate carnage on the highway; and vocational training or…

The social norm I broke was sitting in a different seat at my families dinner table. Each member in my family has their spot at the table where they sit every night. This time I decided to sit in my brother's spot at the table. My entire family was very confused; my brother was especailly irratated. I enjoyed having a different perspective while at the table. Attitude is defined as an orientation that locates objects of thought on dimensions of judgement. My attitude was postive throughout the experience. I felt like there was some prejudice towards me from the other members of my family at the table. A prejudice is defined as a negative attitude held toward member(s) of a group.…

Learning was difficult when I was younger, which allowed me to appreciate learning in college. As a child, I did not like the process of learning, having to be wrong or right and having to retain the information. I would be embarrassed about having the wrong answer since for everyone else, it seemed as if the material just clicked for them. In turn, I would lie to my teachers when they asked if I understood it as I did not want them to slow down just for me. Then, I’d go home to learn it with the assistance of my family. Slowly, I learned how to learn in a classroom setting and how to ask for help. My mother would always tell me to ask questions when I did not understand. I still hesitate when I ask questions in class.…

The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet – Aristotle. Education is the wise, hopeful and respectful development of learning undertaken in the belief that everyone should have the chance to share in life. When you think of education, you think of places like schools or colleges that teach and tutor students in order to prepare them for the future. We notice that education is a concept almost everyone would agree is a universal good, also one that is plagued by seemingly endless controversy because education is said to be a powerful opportunity that you can either build from, or destroy all at once, it’s your choice. Education is built upon years of hard work, surpassing the all difficulties along the way. When in doubt you…

As a young boy reading was never an exciting activity for me. Since the first day I began reading proficiently in the first grade all the way through high school, reading was always a chore. Novel after novel we read in class in which I found myself dozing off into the distance dreaming about everything but reading. The only books I’ve ever enjoyed to this day continue to be Magic Tree House, but after 3rd grade the story line begins to repeat and mock the others, kind of like a Capri sun after drinking them your entire childhood. However, the one thing that those books taught me is that a surprise can always be right around the corner.…

I furiously ripped a sheet of paper out of my notebook and glared at the blank lines I had to fill. My mom assigned a creative writing paper to my daily schoolwork load. Up until seventh grade all I had known was the public school system. In public school, I had acquired an unhealthy habit of getting away with the least amount of work while still maintaining an above average grade. I had the assumption that school would be even easier, having my mom as my teacher. To my surprise, my mom actually expected more effort from me than any of my other teachers in public school. My mom rudely awakened me to the fact that true success did not come without struggle.…

Education means understanding the knowledge one has as well as the skills and material that one has learned from attending a school, college, or university. Education also means the act or process of teaching someone. Although both of these are important, if we did not have people that were more intelligent than one another, we would have no education. Throughout my life, many different educational influences have taught me skills to become successful.…

Growing up in America provides children with the best possible environment. People in other parts of the world don’t have it nearly as well off as we have it here. Everyone is able to go to school; in fact it’s a law! Kids and teens in other countries would kill to be able to go to go to school at all. When we were kids in elementary school, we pretty much had zero worries about the world. The hardest question of the day was what color crayon to draw with. With a few exceptions, almost all of our decisions were made for us; what to eat, when to go to bed, when to wake up, where to go, and in my case, what to wear. None of us ever had a worry about the much larger world beyond our own little world where everything…

“No please don’t make me go back!” I am yelling to my mom, as my salty tears penetrate my make-up and cause it to run down my face. “I hate it, that school is the worst!” “Honey, it is already half way through the school year, you can’t switch school this late in the year.” As my mom says the words I can hear the nonexistence care in her voice. Why does she want me to stay in this school? Doesn’t she realize that just four short months ago I was a “plain Jane” thirteen year old and now I’ve turned into a make-up palate with bones. The pressure of this “prep” school has turned me into this! I feel like just a skeleton of my former self, and I don’t quite know how it happened.…
