Snow Skiing Bliss Everyone has a favorite place they love to be. This place is usually chosen by an experience there or a feeling a person gets when they are spending time in that place. My favorite place in the whole world is Wolfe Creek Ski Resort in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I love it there, and you would, too. Wolfe Creek Ski Resort is my most favorite place because it is where I first learned and started my passion for skiing. I was a ten year old Texas girl at the time and had never seen a pair of skis in my life. I became scared at first; afraid I would fall of the side of a mountain or something of that nature. However, as I took that first push off the top of the snow-packed slope, my fear left. It was as if I was flying through the air on a fluffy white cloud without a care in the world. Even though my class level and I were on the easiest bunny slope, in my mind I was the best skier on God’s green earth. My ski instructor was amazing. He had so much patience with the first time skiers. The instructor would help us up when we fell, and then give us advice on how to fix our mistakes. He was very thorough in his teaching, which made the lesson much more enjoyable. He was also very humorous and had the whole class laughing hysterically in no time. My friends and I had a blast at this resort. As we gained more experience in skiing, we graduated to the harder levels of mountain slopes. We would have contests to see who could fall the least amount of times before reaching the bottom of the steep and daring slopes. I probably fell about twice while skiing down each mountain. We had a fun and memorable experience.
If you are an outdoors person, you should definitely take the time to visit Wolfe Creek Ski Resort. The resort is beautiful, full of tall pine trees covered in glowing fresh and powdery snow. It is a very enjoyable and fun way to spend a winter vacation. You can learn how to ski, snowboard, ride a

This may also be a better place for less-aggressive skiers. There is a beginner's powder area and hundreds of acres of wide-open powder slopes for intermediates and other cruisers. You can take a high-speed quad to the adjacent Peaked Mountain and ski in thigh-deep, untracked snow. A problem you might encounter is, oddly enough, fog. Now and then the mountain gets socked in with gray moisture, forcing skiers to ski below the thick blanket. The Lost Groomer Chute, a run that takes full advantage of the weather moving west to east, will provide the most insatiable powder hound with enough dust.…

The issue of whether or not our lifestyles are environmentally and economically sustainable has been the source of an ongoing debate and prompted an opinionative piece with an accompanying photograph by Paul Evans, “Skiing into Oblivion” (March, 2008). Contending in a predominately concerned and passionate tone, Evans argues that our consumption of the planet’s resources is irresponsible and that we are becoming increasingly motivated by the need to attain unrealistic lifestyles driven by consumerism. However, he also encourages his audience to take action through the use of emotive language, saying that “it is still possible to change direction and take a conservationist route.”…

About 2,500 miles east lies the cold and rainy city of Canton, Ohio. The majority of my childhood was spent inside the house as Ohio was not ideal for outdoor adventure. Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

I can see the sun glistening off the snow covering the treetops as I glide down the mountain. Suddenly I feel a lot of snow sprayed on me as my dad speeds past in his usual perfect formation, as if he’s a slalom skier about to pass the finish line. He goes around a bend, following the curve of the trail, and skis out of sight. When I finally catch up to him I am shocked at what I see. My dad is getting up from a fall – he never falls – and both his skis and poles are scattered around the trail. In all his years of skiing, as far as I know, my dad has never been injured despite some careless falls. As I ski down to my dad I pick up his matching black skis and poles. I get closer to him and see a look in his eyes that worries me. I hide my concern and calmly ask, “Are you okay?”…

Skiing was not my forte or my favorite activity to do. My emotions were enraged at the way I tumbled down the slope. My body ached by falling and tumbling through the freezing cold snow and ice. I concluded that there was some other way down, nevertheless there wasn’t.…

The smell of maple bacon tickled my nose only seconds before my cell phone rang loudly, awaking me from my sluggish state. I silenced the device and tossed it to the other side of the bed. I could feel the sunlight on my skin creeping through the cracks of the blinds. Opening my eyes to a room so brightly lit, I grunted as the light hit my dilated pupils. I crawled from underneath the thick comforter only to be hit by icy cold air, making my skin form little chill bumps. I grabbed my house coat and wrapped my body with it tightly. Satisfied and warm, I walked towards the huge framed windows and opened the wooded blinds. Glancing out at the snow covered mountain tops that seem to outline the winter forest, was a breath taking sight. The trees seemed to dance in the wind and snowflakes landed so lightly against the tree tops. From the beautiful views to the enticing sounds of nature, all the ingredients to a perfect vacation lie right in the valley of the Gatlinburg, Tennessee Smoky Mountains.…
