Smoking in Vietn
INTRODUCTION:
In fact, many countries in the world have the smoking problem, and Vietnam is one of them. Component of cigarettes, awareness of people and management of government is the cause of serious smoking problem in Vietnam. This essay is going to discuss cause and effect of smoking problem in Vietnam, and provide solutions.

BODY: Firstly, there are 200 toxic chemicals per 400 chemicals in tobacco, and in these 200 toxic chemicals there are about 40 chemicals causing cancer. For example, benzene is used in fuel and chemical manufacturing, ammonia is found in cleaning liquid, hydrogen cyanide is used as a fumigant to kill ants. It is also used to manufacture plastics, dyestuff and pesticides. Cadmium is an extremely poisonous and radioactive metal found in batteries, and acetone is found in nail polish remover…. Secondly, because of lack of responsibility, people smoke everywhere, even, there are some children around them. Furthermore, more than half of adult men smoke. This means that the male smoking rate is one of highest rate in the world. Indeed, a man usually smokes a considerable amount every day. Vietnamese men smoke a lot at important occasions such as weddings, funerals or meetings. On the other hand, “Smoking is bad for health”, it is not a strange slogan, and people can see this slogan on every pack of cigarette and almost everywhere in Vietnam. However, the number of smoker does not stop increasing.

Finally, the government of Vietnam does not encourage the community to reduce smoking zealously, as well, they do not construct reserved rooms for smokers in public places. Actually, the Vietnam government has issued a lot of law to ban selling cigarettes for people under 18, but quantity of underage students who smoke is not a small number and the main reasons for this non-compliance is that cigarettes are sold almost everywhere in the country through street vendors and small shops where enforcement of the regulation is not very strict. As a consequence, the components of cigarette influence the nervous system, addition vessels causing heart disease, cancer, and memory damage. In addition, according to some survey, average 5 million people die because of tobacco. Furthermore, smoke spreads in the air easily, thus, when a person smokes, he is harming both himself and many people, including the children around them. Moreover, some statistics have proved that smoke has affected 60%to 80% children under 5, when they breathe too much smoke, they can get some diseases easily, like asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis.

On the other hand, smoking also have an affect on economy, because tax on cigarettes is very high, about 45% retail tax. Normally, a pack of cigarettes costs 10 thousand VND, so, if a person smokes one pack a day, he has to pay 300 thousand VND a month for smoking. However, people may spend much more money than that, because some kinds of cigarette have a higher price and also for addicted people, one pack a day is not enough. Specially, wasting a lot of money for smoking a month is a severe problem for married people, because they also have to support their family. In addition, expense for treating diseases caused by tobacco in Vietnam is increasing rapidly, from 429, 8 billion in 2004 to 1160 billion in 2006, and this number will be higher in the future This leads to another burden for government.

SOLUTION:
The government should find some effective solution to solve problem of smoking, for example they can upgrade education about the consequence of smoking in schools or works. Also, the government should expand communication for people to reduce smoking. Encouraging the community avoid smoking in public places and around children is necessary. Also, the government should construct reserved room for smoker at some places such as restaurants, hotels or airports.

CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, the number of smoker will not decrease, if the government do not have reasonable solution. Therefore, the government should repair and issue new law about smoking, beside that, they should apply the rules strictly.
