Sm Mall of Asia and Smarter Scientists
This week, July 23 to 27 2013 we are celebrating National Science and Technology Week or NSTW 2013. NSTW is an annual event organized by our DOST. This event helps to showcase different products, concept and technologies that DOST developed. Why I want to go in this event is that it can help me to be a good student and citizen helping my country in raising its economy like the other country in the world. Like what the theme of the event said: Science, Technology and Innovation: The Road to a Smarter Philippines. I know with the help of Science and Technology we can make the Philippines smart like others. In case of emergency, we are ready. That’s why this event also prepare an activity called Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation on July 23, the start of the NTSW. It will tackle some livelihood demos and the switching of NOAH’s sensors. Project NOAH helps us to be ready in case of calamities. In the next day, July 24 there is another activity entitled Opportunities in S&T-led businesses; Countryside Development. Based on what I have read there is a part of the activity called Smarter Kids, Smarter Scientists. This is for elementary students that can help them in doing some simple experiments and investigatory projects like now in high school we have a research subject which is unexpected. It will make the elementary students a good researchers and scientists in the near future. But the activity I really want to attend is on July 25 themed Industry Competitiveness. There is also a part Smarter Kids, Smarter Scientists which is now for high school students. I would really love if our teacher Mr. Merilles allowed us to go there. It will be a lot of fun and excitement. But there is also a part of the activity called “Biz on the Web”. This is a forum talking about online market that can help businessman to make money easier. Some of the biggest online entrepreneurs will be at the forum. It is a big opportunity for young adults to be there because it help them to be a

Salk implements many educational activities that showcase the connections between our objectives and goals. In our social studies department, students learned how bills become laws, and students used innovation to generate bills to solve the problem, “What improvements can we make at Salk?” Bills were voted on and went to the principal; they were either signed into law or vetoed. In all contents, students use chromebooks to creatively integrate technology (another STEM theme and objective) in both learning and generating evidence that represents their application of this learning. Students create videos, presentations, infographics, lab reports by using probeware, Ti-Nspire handhelds to work math problems, and coding software to solve problems and challenges. Outside the traditional classroom, Salk has activities that promote our three themes and equity in education. Student clubs (GEMS, Robotics League, Math League), family events (STEM Family Night) and educational activities (Science Fair and History Day research days and support nights) align to our STEM themes and essential questions by enriching students and their understanding of how STEM connects with their…
