Slavery was a system of forced labor that existed for thousands of years; slavery in America however, began in the seventeenth century when people in Africa were forced to leave their native land, culture, and families behind. Although there were battles fought by the African people with hopes of resisting their enslavers, the Europeans countered by coercing one African tribe to enslave another; threatening to arm their enimies if they refused. The Europeans strategic campaign succeeded, thus enlisting stronger African tribes to conquer, and capture their weaker counter parts. Subsequently, the defeated were subjected to be handed over to the Europeans. The African captives were chained together , and forced to embark on a journey to the coast,
