Six Aims For Improvement In Health Care
We must decide what are we trying accomplish. Without a clear and firm goal any initiative will not improve. The goal must be measurable and time-specific. Allocating the people and resource necessary to carry out the goal so in agreeing on the goal is also very important. In 2001 the Institute of Medicine(IMO) in Washington, DC, USA released in “Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century” outlines six overarching “Aims for Improvement” for health care. We will use the six IOM aims to develop our aims, they are as follows:

Safe: Avoid injuries to patients from the care that is intended to help them.
Effective: Match care to science; avoid overuse of ineffective care and underuse of effective care.
