Where the Pants were born?
“I could tell the pants didn't come to our lives because of tragedy.” -Carmen
Carmen got them at a thrift shop at the outer reaches of Georgetown with Lena, Effie, and their mother.
“The pants were folded innocently on a shelf by the counter where you pay. I figured maybe they'd been washed. Also, they were only $3.49 including tax. I didn't even try them on, so you can tell I wasn't serious about owning them. My butt has specific requirements for pants.” -Carmen
This summer was big for the newborn Sisterhood. It was the first summer they'd be separated.
Carmen: She was going to South Carolina to “hang out” with her dad.
Lena: She was going to Greece with her younger sister Effie to visit their grandparents for 2 months.
Bridget: She was going to a soccer camp in Baja California, Mexico.
Tibby: She was staying home and working at Wallmans.
All of their mothers doubted their friendship. For example, Carmen's mother said “Just wait till you get serious about boys and school. Just wait till you start competing.”
They denied every comment their mothers made.
“You know what the secret is? It's so simple. We love one another. We're nice to one another. Do you know how rare that is?
Tibby wanted the Pants in Carmen's closet. Carmen with no stutter gave them to her to try on. Tibby fitted in them looking greater than ever. Lena tried them on and the hugged her hips so perfectly. According to Bridget, Lena looked “very sexy”.
Bridget then tried them on. The pants complimented her long lean legs fitting perfectly. Next, was Carmen. Carmen had a huge Puerto- Rican butt. It was hard for her to find jeans that even covered her butt fully. Carmen didn't want to, she thought how in the world can these pants fit three similar builds then fit a total different build.
