Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's A Scandal In Bohemia
In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Scandal in Bohemia,” the content of the photograph causes problem for the king. In addition, Holmes’s reaction to the photograph creates suspense, and Doyle’s tone achieves this suspense. I believe the content of the photograph causes a problem for the king because the king will be married to Clotilde Lothman von Saxe-Meningen, second daughter of the King of Scandinavia, and the photograph contains the picture of the king when he was still a prince and a woman named Irene Adler. “Threatens to send them the photograph.” Irene Adler threatens the king that she will send the photograph to Clotilde’s family that’s why the king is having a problem. Next, Holmes’s reaction to the photo creates suspense. “Oh, dear! That

One of the most important themes in Arthur Miller's The Crucible is the nature of authority and people who abuse it. In the story, authority is determined by the religious status one has in the community and often education plays a role. Nowadays, authority is noted by the place you have in society and is also based on education and sometimes wealth. It seems that whenever there is a figure of authority, there is always someone abusing the power designated to them.…

In Henry James’s novel, The Turn of the Screw, the governess takes the motherly role of trying to protect Miles and Flora from the “devilish” ghosts that she encounters at Bly. She takes this stance of protecting the children to gain favor with the uncle. “It was a pleasure at these moments to feel myself tranquil and justified; doubtless, perhaps, also to reflect that by my discretion, my quiet good sense and general high propriety, I was giving pleasure – if he ever thought of it! – to the person to whose pressure I had responded. What I was doing was what he had earnestly hoped and directly asked of me, and that I could, after all, do it proved even a greater joy than I had expected. I daresay I fancied myself, in short, a remarkable…

The Comedy of Errors is a play that takes place at one day in one place: Ephesus. The play begins with a long speech by Egeon, a Syracusian merchant who is facing execution if he does not pay a fine of a thousand marks, since there is a law that forbids the presence of Syracusian merchants in Ephesus. In order to explain why he is in Ephesus, Egeon tells the duke how his family was separated due to a shipwreck, leaving him behind with one of his twin sons and one of the slaves he bought for his sons. Five years earlier, Antipholus of Syracuse, the son that was left behind with Egeon, went on a quest to find his identical twin brother, accompanied by his slave Dromio of Syracuse (who also has a twin brother). When his son did not return, Egeon himself went to search for him and therefore arrived in Ephesus. The duke is moved by this story, and grants Egeon one day to pay his fine.…
