Sioux City Symphony Orchestra Review Essay
Yesterday evening I attended the Christmas Spectacular at the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every event I have attended at the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. They seem to always do an excellent job. I come from a small town in eastern Iowa, so it is incredible to have such amazing resources to enjoy from such a short drive away. To see a symphony like this from my hometown, I would have to drive over an hour, and the symphony still would not be as high quality as the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. I think more Briar Cliff students should take advantage of the incredible opportunity the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra gives us. Every time I have attended, they have let me in for free because I am a Briar Cliff student. That is so kind of them to do, especially since running a performance is not cheap in the slightest. The performer of the evening was Simon Estes. Simon Estes is an incredible bass-baritone, who I have actually already had the pleasure of meeting. Lucky for me, my high school choir director has great connections with many extraordinary performers, including Simon Estes. Once every couple years or so, Simon Estes visits my high school and gives us a short performance. After his short performance, he discusses how he got to where he is, and …show more content…
However, I can tell you Simon Estes has one of the highest quality, low voices you will ever hear. How low Simon can sing is practically unimaginable; it can literally vibrate your seat. Mixing his low voice with his natural musical intelligence results in, my opinion, opera perfection. Opera may not be the most popular style of music, but it still lovely to listen to. Would I choose to listen to opera on a daily basis? Probably not. However, I enjoy the occasional opera concert. I believe it is my generation’s job to ensure the art of the opera does not

    Each choir was singing a different piece by John Rutter. In our choir there were about 8 different choirs that came together for this. The HCCYC was the only choir that included any middle schoolers, but since I skipped first grade, I was the only eleven-year-old on the stage throughout the entire performance. The concert started at eight-o'clock that night and we were the first act. We walk out of stage and everything hits us all at once. The entire venue is absolutely gorgeous, even more so when it is filled up with people. Everyone gets into their places, and Mr. Rutter had us pull out our music, and he started the orchestra. The entire room filled with the gorgeous sounds of the brass, woodwind, strings, and the heavy pounding of the percussion.     On February 19, 2015, Jared Blum at the Sacramento State University had his first concert of the spring semester featuring plenty of special guests. This concert was presented as partial fulfillment of the requirements that he needs for his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Jared Blum, with his special guests (Megan Spurlock on the clarinet, Morgan Childres on the trombone, the Jazz Combo, the Jazz Essemble, and other special guests), collectively performed nine pieces along with a medley that compromised of three songs at the concert.     Rachel Stanton sat down on the piano with another female and Michelle Ellison stood directly in front of the piano wearing and elegant purple dress. I was unclear of what type of music that would be performed. Rachel Stanton began playing a very slow soft rhythm. Michelle began to sing in a warm very high pitched tone and this is when I realized that I was at an opera recital. Michelle was singing in what I believe to be Italian.     On Friday April 30 at 8 pm, I attended the Spring Instrumental jazz concert at Yuba College. This was the first time I have been in the school auditorium. There was a count off and the music began with nearly a full house. The first song played was "Won't you be my neighbor" from Mister Rogers' neighborhood by Fred Rogers and Mike Tomato. I liked the intro it started with Ron Hake tapping on the symbols then the trumpets, and trombones cut in and the music begins.
