Single Sex Schools
Good afternoon Ms Plasto and fellow students. My name is Nova Grinter and I believe that single-sex schools are better than co-ed schools. Single sex schools provide a much better working environment for the students with fewer distractions. A single sex classroom gives the teacher opportunities to teach differently with the presence of only one gender. As teenagers develop physically and emotionally having them in the same co-ed classroom can cause more bullying, fakeness and sexual harassment in some cases. Although there is are downsides to a single sex education.
Students who attend single sex schools have more opportunities academically because their teachers can apply different learning strategies into the classroom which don’t work as effectively on the opposite sex or in co-ed classrooms. For boys they excel most in English and L.O.T.E subjects and girls improve their performance in Maths and Science at single sex schools. The researchers at Stetson University have done tests which show 75% of girls and 86% of boys work better and more efficiently in single-sex schools. Subjects such as health, physical education and sex education are best taught in a single sex environment to avoid uncomfortable and awkward situations between the teachers and students of opposite sexes. A single-sex learning environment can be the key to avoid bullying.
Boys and girls are a clear distraction for each other especially in adolescence as their sexual and emotion sides develop. Often girls will try to impress and get the attention of a boy, they will do this basically at any cost, whether it be dumbing themselves down, making a fool of themselves or just acting differently. Boys don’t necessarily want the attention of a girl however they always seem to catch it. It isn’t uncommon for boys to sexually harass a girl which can make her feel very uncomfortable and not able to perform at their best in the classroom. While trying to avoid sexual harassment, girls will still try

It is proven that students in single-sex schools feel less pressure than their coeducational counterparts. This decrease in pressure results in many advantages for both males and females. Without the distraction of impressing females, males are less competitive and more cooperative. In addition, girls are more willing to speak in public, and exhibit higher levels of confidence and self-esteem. With this decrease in pressure, students will enjoy the learning environment more. This results in an increased attendance frequency because students look forward to school, rather than dreading to attend. Single sex education increases opportunities for leadership as well. In a female single sex environment, girls hold leadership positions that they might not have the opportunity to hold in a coeducational environment. Furthermore, males may be less inhibited to get involved and assume leadership roles in the absence of females. Another benefit of single-sex education is the ability to tailor the environment towards either males or females. This is advantageous because some studies indicate that females learn better in warmer temperature. While males tend to perform better in cooler environments. If this is true, then even the temperature of a single-sex classroom can be set to optimize the learning of either male of female students. The author also explains the opposition to single-sex…

Another reason co-ed schools tower over private same sex schools is because private schools are too strict. One way they are is because they often require uniforms. Uniforms are no fun when you cannot express your own style. They do not give individuals the opportunity to express themselves by being different. Another reason co-ed schools are better is because they are often easier on their students when it comes to discipline. A lot of parents feel that the discipline should be learned at home. The education facility is a place to learn about school matters, not etiquette.…

This in itself would be cause enough to implement more single-sex classrooms in public schools.…

Some high schools in the United States are considering creating separate classrooms to educate the boys and the girls. Many parents and professionals have their own opinions on this topic; but, the real question is if boys and girls would benefit from these separate classrooms. The cons of this topic outnumber the pros in many different ways. Many believe that the idea is undecided whether it is sexist by separating the two genders. On the other hand, students won’t have as many distractions while trying to learn their basic life skills. Another con of separating the students would be, when it comes to becoming adults, students won’t ever be separated in the real world in their job.…

While I am in a class with both genders there is a lot of dating in the class. The boy would try to show off to a certain girl to only find himself making a foolish look or weird pose. The girl, on the other hand would stare off at that boy until someone noticed her or he saw her. Trust me his look would be very grossed out. So the common kid would be hurt if we were in a mixed gendered school.…

Nevertheless, there are many convincing arguments against co-ed schools. The first point is that students can remain more focused on their work. Boys and girls may not concentrate on their studies in a mixed class. Another counterargument is that there is a big difference between girls and boys. Since they don’t think in the same ways, they should not be taught the same. Last, co-ed schools are against some religions. To clarify, they violate Islamic injunctions and social morals.…

Major arguments are weather single sex schools district would increase confidence and self esteem, increase academic test scores and grades, and increase students socially. There should be single sex public school districts. Single-Sex Schools have been discriminated against by many due to the belief that students will not be able to function comfortably with the opposite sex when leaving to attend a co-educational College or University. This belief is also tied with the thought that single-sex schools represent segregation; many people do believe that these types of schools promote the separation of males and females. Some also believe that all single-sex schools result in people not being able to function socially with opposite gender when place in the real world. However, all of these beliefs are far from the truth. Studies have shown that attending single-sex schools can be very beneficial in succeeding both academically and socially. Gender-separate format can boost grades and test scores for both girls and boys (Haag, 2000). Single-Sex education is especially beneficial for young females and young males. This type of education offers both genders a more comfortable way of learning, students feel more comfortable asking questions and speaking up in a classroom setting. Teachers can focus on gender issues facing young females or males today, such as body concerns as well as focusing on more challenging subjects for young girls and boys (Messinger, 2001). Through studies made from various single-sex female schools, as well as the research made through comparisons to coeducational schools, the belief that single-sex school as being a bad idea is shown to be not only incorrect, but also a completely misguided beliefs.…
