Music expresses, at different moments a variety of emotions from joy to fury it expresses a state of meaning that’s difficult for words, even a language to comprehend (Copeland). For music to influence the listener, it should be heard on a Sheerly musical plane because once it’s appealing to the ears everything else will come. Kendrick Lamar’s “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst” is a 12 minute narrative from his major label debut album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. It’s broken into 2 skits and two songs “Sing about me” which speaks on issues with L.A.’s gang culture and secondly “I'm dying of thirst.” based on the nightlife. The song at first sounds like a regular song, you’re either bored because of how long it is or entertained. Overtime you start to appreciate it and it’s entirety, yes it’s emotional but it’s a dope song and the 12 mins just fly by.

The first Verse is told from the perspective of Dave’s brother, who begins to vent about the murder, the urge to seek revenge and goes on the thank Kendrick for being there for his brother during his final moments. He wishes Lamar the best for discovering a new passion(music), something he wished to do but never will because he’s accepted the fact that being gang affiliated will get him killed.
