Simon Lord Of The Flies Chapter 9 Analysis
In chapter nine of Lord Of The Flies, the scene before the death of Simon is a big contributor to adding sociological characteristics to the main characters in the novel. At Jack’s party, Simon stumbles upon their camp ground while they were doing their dance. The boys thought that he was the beast, so they proceeded to attack him. In this situation Jack was commanding all of the boys and telling them what to do, so he has legitimate power. All the boys see him as being able to control what they do, and they view him as the leader of their tribe. “Before the party had started a great log had been dragged into the center of the lawn and Jack, painted and garlanded, sat there like an idol.” (Golding 213), from this quote we see that he was given
