Similarities Between John Smith And William Bradford
Captain John Smith and William Bradford both had been looking for some new land and a new scratch (a new beginning). There are a few similarities in each of the stories. There are also a lot of different things between the two. Some similar things they do have is that they meet with the Native Americans. Captain John Smith lives in Jamestown and in plymouth Plantation there is a group which are sailors and they are all lead by william Bradford. Both of these story are very similar but if you noticed and realize they are different in such the littlest way. Bradford was with a group of pilgrims from the Dutch Republic. William Bradford had discussed what he had thought about religion and the bible compared to the pilgrims. William Bradford and the pilgrim's goal was to have freedom religious.They wanted to start new in the Americas because they wanted to reform the church of England but the separatist said had said no. So they end up leaving England. They ran into many obstacles on the way. Some things they ran into was hunger and if they can't eat then that causes death. It also cause illness and love source of food and nature. When the pilgrims got there the native Americans had got terrified that they were going to lose all their resources and …show more content…
John Smith isn't religious but William Bradford is religious and factual based on his belief in religion. Captain John was so selfish and rude that he did help any of his mates at all. He also believed that if they did not work at all they we not able to eat at all. John Smith came to the new world and search of tobacco and making money while William Bradford came to the new world for religious freedom.     William Bradford's most well-known work by far is Of Plymouth Plantation. It was a detailed history in manuscript form about the founding of the Plymouth colony and the lives of the colonists from 1621 to 1646.[46] It is a common misconception that the manuscript was actually Bradford's journal. Rather, it was a retrospective account of his recollections and observations, written in the form of two books. The first book was written in 1630; the second was never finished, but "between 1646 and 1650, he brought the account of the colony's struggles and achievements through the year 1646."[47] As Walter P. Wenska states, "Bradford writes most of his history out of his nostalgia, long after the decline of Pilgrim fervor and commitment had become apparent. Both the early annals which express his confidence in the Pilgrim mission and the later annals, some of which reveal his dismay and disappointment, were written at about the same time."[46] In Of Plymouth Plantation, Bradford drew deep parallels between everyday life and the events of the Bible. As Philip Gould writes, "Bradford hoped to demonstrate the workings of divine providence for the edification of future generations."[47] Despite the fact that the manuscript was not published until 1656, the year before his death, it was well received by his near contemporaries.…
