Similarities Between Animal Farm And The Russian Revolution

Animal Farm by George Orwell is a story that is a great representation of the Russian Revolution. The Russian Revolution in 1917 ended centuries of imperial rule and started political and social changes that would eventually lead to the formation of the Soviet Union. For years, Russian workers had been treated unfairly and had been waiting for a time to revolt. The Bloody Sunday Massacre in 1905 occurred when many Russians were protesting against the monarchy and hundreds of unarmed protesters were killed by troops of the czar. Eventually after many more small revolutions, in 1917, Vladimir Lenin launched the Bolshevik government that would rebel against the Russian monarchy and cause a civil war. Both of these events ultimately led to the rebellions against each situations imperial rule. In Animal Farm, the animals ended up rebelling against Mr. Jones’ rule at the farm and in the Russian Revolution, Lenin and the Bolshevik’s rebelled against the monarchy in Russia to ultimately form the Soviet Union. Another similarity between Animal Farm and The Russian Revolution is Napoleon compared to Vladimir Lenin. In the Russian Revolution, Lenin started the Bolshevik government that ended up taking over the monarchy and czar rule in Russia. After Lenin took over Russia with his Bolshevik government, he became the dictator of the Soviet Union. Lenin got people to rally with him because he and many protesters had one thing in common, they did not like the monarchy in Russia. After Lenin had got many people on his side, he got the people of his army to look up to him. He then took advantage of these people as he became the dictator in the Soviet Union. Lenin is similar to Napoleon because Napoleon also sparked a revolution against imperial rule, which in this case was Mr. Jones’ rule of the farm. Napoleon did the same thing as Lenin as he got all of the animals on his side and got them to rally with him. Napoleon then became dictator of the farm and led with an unfair rule on the farm. One last similarity between Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution is the Battle of Cowshed compared to the Russian Civil War. The Battle of Cowshed occurred when Mr. Jones and his companions came back to the farm to try and seize control. The animals had been waiting for a perfect time to revolt and then this happened. All of the animals fought the humans to permanently take control of the farm. This is similar to the Russian Civil War because, in the Russian Civil War, the white army and the Russians who supported the monarchy tried to come back and over through the red army and the Bolsheviks just like Mr. Jones and his companions tried to come back and seize control of the farm. Both of these events ended in the same, the army/animals who had control had to defend themselves in war from the group that they gained control from. In the Russian Civil War, the white army tried to come back and over through the red army and in Animal Farm, Mr. Jones and his humans tried to come back and take control of the farm from the animal. Both the Russian Revolution and Animal Farm had a war that was very similar to each other. Animal Farm has proven to be an allegory to the Russian Revolution as they have many similar events and characters that take part in them. The first similarity that the two share is The Bloody Sunday
