Today I am here to talk about weather 16 years olds should be allowed to use social networking, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I strongly agree that they shoud be allowed due to many obvious reasons. Even though there are many reasons they should not be allowed. However I think that there is more positivity than negativity, but as I had said we all have our own opinion.

In the essay, “Teenagers and Social Networking – It Might Actually Be Good for Them,” Clive Thompson argues that online socializing is a good tool for teenagers to use. He believes teenagers are using social media as a great way to communicate and create opportunities, and that it is something that teenagers should continue to use. He likewise believes that teenagers are still spending time with each other face to face and not solely just through social media or a text message. Thompson provides the reader with many examples, personal opinions, and data that was collected to help further his claim. Thompson’s argument appeals to reason because he gives many details and examples to help prove his claim, and is also successful in proving his argument because he appeals to parents emotionally.…

Once Facebook was created it opened up people’s minds in different ways to see what’s going around daily. The pros of Facebook are endless to the users. Even if a user is not into world news, or what is going on around the world they can view it if a friend of theirs share a post about it. This attracts the user that does not care to start thinking about how important what is going around in our world is. As it was mentioned earlier, with every positive there is a negative. Facebook allows the user to post whatever they want to post without any limits, unless whomever the post offends reports the post that offended them to the company. However, this creates more hate than there is into the people. How many suicide cases have we heard that where caused by social media cyber bullying. Even though Facebook every day builds more privacy options into the network barely any user uses…

Social media should not allow users under the age of 18. My opinion is that I agree because young teens are posting things that are stupid and inappropriate. People that are 18 years and older are more mature and don't do things that are not inappropriate. Teens have been kidnapped, killed, and rapped. Teens have also have been bullied on social media and have done suicide because of that.…

It is important to mention some facts given on the article related to the use of some social networks such as Facebook. The article explains that most of Facebook users have at least 130 friends and that the time required keeping up with all those friends is deducted from face-to-face relationships. Another interesting fact is that many children using social networks lie about their age so that they could create an account. This present many problems even though kids lie about their age with the support of their parents they don’t involve themselves in the activities of their children on the social networks. The authors also dedicate a good part of their article to explain the benefits of blogs and forums. For example they explain that young people that have their own blog feel free to express their views and feelings since they would not have any correction from adults. On the other hand, social networks sites can help on children and adolescent growth since they receive attention to their opinions and honest feedback. It also opens the possibilities of an open debate which could be difficult in the presence of adults.…

To speak on social networking and media, one must define it. The definition of social media is “the relationships that exist between network of people”. Technically speaking, Socialmedia.biz states, "Social Media are those forms of publishing that are based on a dynamic interaction, a conversation, between the author and active readers, in contrast with traditional broadcast media where the ‘audience’ is a passive ‘consumer’ of ‘content’”. This presents the fact that the audience is not necessarily specified, and the viewers are unintentional. Children and teenagers have became a large audience of social media. As technology has developed, teenagers have the internet at their fingertips. Social networking has given teenagers the advantages of learning, socializing and endless entertainment. Amanda Lenhart stated, “95% of all teens ages 12-17 are now online and 80% of those online teens are users of social media sites”. According to a study conducted by the National Institute on Media and Family, children spend more time sitting in front of electronic screens than doing any other activity besides sleeping. Kids’ excessive screen time comes with all kinds of hazards: like lack of physical activity, exposure to adult themes and content, and lack of interaction with family and peers. And then there are the ads—for almost every product imaginable, including alcohol and medications intended for adult use only. Ads also send strong messages about personal appearance and other topics to which children and teens are especially aware of. As years go by social networks keep growing, and prove to have many negative and positive influences on teenagers. And Social networking is not just Facebook and twitter, social media is any web based platform that enables people to interact. With the risks involved, the question is asked, should teenagers be limited in their use of social media?…

Suicide has become one of the world’s most common forms of death; it has become the third leading cause of deaths among teenagers. Cyber bullying is a large contributor to these deaths because of its easy access to personal information and no parental monitoring. One in ten children have experienced cyber bullying and 25 % do not tell anybody. Cyber bullies spread around false rumors, trick people into revealing private information, post pictures without the permission of the person and directly insult people through messages. These social networking sites have done little to nothing on this issue.…

As we approach 2014 social media has been very advantageous communicating tool for people of all ages to use. In today’s society, billions of people across the world are accessing the internet multiple times a day. Why wouldn’t they? Many people have the internet on their smart phones, and at the touch of a button can check their email, their Facebook, their bank account balance, movie times, you name it. One of these things, however, usually consumes more of the user’s time than the others. Yes, you guessed it: Facebook. Any social networking site or application, actually, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or something similar, seems to easily suck up hours of a person’s day. Young children and teens are accessing these sites while at school, and as soon as they get home from school. Adults are accessing these sites while at work and those who are married or have children are often choosing to spend time checking their “walls” or profiles rather than spending time with their loved ones. There is no doubt that there are certain social benefits to these sites; many people say we need them to keep in touch with friends. However, the benefits do not outweigh the problems they cause. Social networking causes children and adults to be lazy and overweight, less productive at school and work, and, ironically, causes them to be anti-“social.” For these reasons, social networking is bad for society and should not be used.…

Many people say that allowing minors to use social media puts them in risk of dangerous interactions. However, banning it would increase the risk more so. Minors should have access to social media because banning it would make it more taboo, leading to riskier, more secretive online activates and would, to a degree, fail to keep minors socially and emotionally steady…
