Should We Keep The Olympics
I am debating about if we should or should not keep the Olympics. I think that we should keep the Olympics. I believe we should keep the Olympics because it is a fantastic way for the best athletes in the world to show what they can do. Also, it is a good way to keep athletes healthy. People are saying we should not keep the Olympics because the Olympics do not have all the sports. Yes they do not have all sports, but the Olympics keep growing so they could add the sports they don’t have. Another reason to keep the Olympics is because you can go watch some of the best athletes compete and spend time with your family having fun. Lastly, when the Olympics are coming athletes are on diets and training for weeks.

When the Olympics come athletes are training for months and months practicing to get ready to be perfect and ready when they go to the Olympics. Also, they go on diets to stay healthy and fit for the Olympics. Without the Olympics what would some of these athletes do with their lives? They could not do what they have been dreaming to do and practicing to do since they were little kids. Also, they would not be as healthy because they would not be going on diets. Lastly, if we take away the Olympics, athletes would not get to do what they have been waiting to do, they would not be as healthy and what would they do with their lives that would be as beneficial as the …show more content…
Also, they go on diets so they can perform at their highest peak when they compete. It can be sad for the people who want to go watch some of the best athletes in the world. Yes there are other things than the olympics but there is nothing that can show all the best athletes. You know the olympic athletes are the best because they have to go through a trial to get in and only five of each sport from America can get in to the olympics. LAstly, if we take it away because a couple of sports are not in then it will not be fair to the other sports that are in. Also, the Olympics are growing so in a while all sports will be in the

The only exception is religion which played a major role in the Ancient Olympics, but it did not play any type of role in the modern olympics. This was because the Olympics were brought back to bring countries from all over the world together, and the world doesn’t have only one religion. Athletics also played a role in the Ancient Olympics, and so did they play a role in the modern Olympics. In 1986 when the olympics were brought back they were meant to bring multiple nations around the world together by having athletes compete in different sports to win medals for their countries. Politics did not only play a role in the Ancient Olympics but the Modern Olympics as well.…

American Olympic athletes should be paid more money for training and competing. They currently do not make enough which is leading to less than optimal performance for the American team. Most olympians are making less than $15,000 per year(less than minimum wage), which makes it tough for them to train to their potential and win. America’s top athletes are going to play football, basketball, or baseball instead of competing in the Olympics. We are also being beat by other countries that pay and value their athletes more.…

Some may argue that sports play an important role in teaching life lessons to athletes. Yes, you can learn valuable things through sports, but you can take on even better traits through school and teamwork activities in the classroom without the problems that athletics comes with, like injuries and pressure. School comes before athletics and some athletes think athletics are more important than school, so eliminating sports will help these students learn valuable life lessons through school and activities in the classroom with other students.…

Without sports I’m not sure if America would be able to survive. Most people don’t think about it, but the right to play sports is a huge privilege. On the other hand being able to watch sports is a huge luxury. Many people seek sports for entertainment, and to pass time. Another way people are involved in sports is in supporting, and or donating. Almost all sports team has some type of funding slash fundraising program. Most civilizations most likely would not have the ability to own a area and do the Games every 4 years. Doing so would prove very difficult for other civilizations because of lack of wealth within their governments. The Greeks had a elite system already created with the Olympics before the Games began the created the rule that "If athletes did not have enough money to pay for training leading to participation in the Olympic Games, the cities of the would hire the necessary trainers" having this rule meant that the Greeks could have a proper system with the athletes and how they could help the society earn more…

Although the Olympic Committee has been known for corruption and accepting bribes from countries in the past, one major downside of a country during the selection process is how many players have had medals revoked due to cheating. Since Russia has the most with 12 medals taken and the United States of America is a close second with 11 medals taken, the International Olympic Committee is therefore more hesitant in choosing more frequently cheating countries. Hosting the Olympic games is a huge source of income and economic growth due to tourist attractions. It also creates new sports arenas/ facilities which America could always use another football or basketball or baseball team. All of the positive statistics haven’t come true for America since the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. If the United States could stay out of the drugs, the odds of hosting a future Olympics would increase…

The modern Olympic Games were created with the mindset of, “sound mind in a sound body” (Choi, 2009). This idea, an old Roman saying, is the ideal that the modern Games wished to encourage to promote friendship between nations. The modern Olympic Games have only been cancelled three times since their revival: during World War I and World War II. The massive amount of bloodshed, carnage, and disunity that was occurring during this time meant that the tradition of the Olympic Games was both not feasible and not a priority of the time. The 1916 Olympic Games were cancelled due to World War I. The 1940 and 1944 Olympics were cancelled due to World War II, but resumed in 1948 and continued every four years until the International Olympic Committee decided to put the Summer and Winter Olympics on different calendar years. The Summer Games were scheduled for 1996 and every four years after that, and the Winter Games were scheduled for 1994, only two years after the previous Games, and were to continue at four year intervals (Hellenic Information Society). Since World War II’s interruption of the Olympic Games, the tradition has never been fully cancelled. However, they have been boycotted by multiple nations set on making political statements, usually on the account of…

The Olympic Games have some benefits like the stadium we can use the stadium for other sports and will have a track or we could sell the stadium for example football group. The stakeholder had lot of benefits like McDonalds as they were selling there foods which will make a profit and they had them advertising in the Olympics as there other stakeholder did. The 2012 games were a real inspiration to other as they work so hard to achieve their goals. Other people will look up to them as how much they worked to achieve that goal. Because of the Olympics London got a better travel system in London which is more efficient. Another long term benefit is the 5,000 homes which they used as the Olympic village. The whole of UK had an increase of tourism through the season of Olympics. This is a benefit as the country would have made money e.g. selling goods, cost of hotel etc. The Olympic gave lot short term jobs of people who were unemployed. Stanford had high unemployment level; this should have given jobs to people who were unemployed. It will also encourage sport in the world; this will make people fitter and healthier. The main thing is we made history. They will never forget the moment when Great Britain was on spot light for the month. That would have made the world talk about Britain and how capable they are for such an event as the Olympics.…

Well-known throughout the world the games have been used to promote understanding and friendship among nations, but have also been a hotbed of political disputes and boycotts. The Olympic games started thousands of years ago and lasted over a millennium.. The symbolic power of the Games lived on after their demise, and came to life again as the modern Olympic Games being revived in the last century. Both the modern and Ancient Olympics have close similarities in there purpose and in there problems. <br><br><b>Ancient Olympics</b><br>The ancient Olympics had some differences from the modern Games. There were fewer events, and only free men who spoke Greek could compete, instead of athletes from any country. Women where not allowed to even watch the games on penalty of death let alone play in them.. Also, the games were always held at Olympia in Greece instead of being moved around to different sites every time. But also they had some similarities to our modern Olympics, winning athletes were heroes who put their home towns on the map, and became financially sound for life.<br>The conflict between the Olympic's ideals of sportsmanship and unity and the commercialism and political acts which accompany the Games where also present in ancient times. "Sotades at the ninety-ninth Festival was victorious in the long race and proclaimed a Cretan, as in fact he was. But at the next Festival he made himself an Ephesian, being bribed to do so by the Ephesian people. For this act he was banished by the Cretans."<br><br>The first Olympic games at Olympia were held in 776 BC.
