Should Teachers Be Allowed to Bring Guns to School

When you think of school, a safe environment for students to learn comes to mind. When you think of a gun, you think of violence, danger, unsafe environment. Therefore an environment for safe learning should not have guns. The question is should teachers be allowed to bring guns to school. Honestly, there is no reason as to why teachers should be allowed to bring guns to school. The school system hire school security for a reason and it’s dangerous that they can walk around the school with guns. That can make a student uncomfortable, and if a teacher brings a gun to school what does that say to the student.

Most school systems hire police or some type of security to watch after students during the day. Security should be enough protection, so a teacher still shouldn’t feel the need to carry a gun. It’s still not fully safe for a security to carry a gun. On January 27, 2011 a policeman was arrested for shooting his gun inside of a school building. Not only did he fire his weapon, he also lied about the situation. If the same situation took place and a teacher had control over the gun it actually could have been worse, because a school policeman just watch over the student who are most likely in the hall, a teacher actually is in class with the students.

All this going on around a student could make them very uncomfortable. Personally speaking, I wouldn’t want to come to class everyday if I know my teacher had a gun in the class. The fact that a gun is in the class can mess with a student’s learning, because instead of focusing on their lesson, they would be focusing on the danger they could possibly be in. As student, we should feel comfortable around our teachers if we don’t feel comfortable around anyone else; teachers bringing guns to school shows students that they don’t trust them nor feel comfortable around them. How are students suppose to trust their teacher if their teacher don’t trust them? The idea of teachers bringing guns to school would change the entire prospective of school. When you are at school it shouldn’t feel like your in jail.

The biggest question is why would a teacher feel the need to carry a gun? If the school do what they are suppose and have security checks in the morning, this wouldn’t be an issue. There isn’t anything I can think that a student can do that would make a teacher want to pull a gun out. Any negative situation that takes place when the student is out of hand can be handled many other ways without using a gun. Ever since school has been open, there was never a need for a teacher to bring a gun to school. Yes, incidents have happened such as students who have brought a gun to school and have went on rampages, but I believe if there were security searches those mornings; those incidents could have been avoided.

The whole idea of teachers having weapons in the class sets a bad example for the students. If a teacher feels the need to have a gun in a class, in makes at no different from a student feeling the same ways. Students may even have more problems were they may feel the need to have a gun than a teacher would with situations such as bullying and gang activities. A teacher having a gun in the class may even provoke a student to bring a gun to class. It may make a student feel like there is no other than with violence. They already see violence everyday so they need to see something different at school, since it’s suppose to be a safe environment. They need to see something positive.

Teachers are humans too. They make mistakes just like everyone else. One day a teacher may snap and uses the gun on a student. Just because they are certified and eligible to teach a student doesn’t mean that they won’t make humanly mistakes. Something can be going on inside that teacher’s mind which causes them not to think straight, which may cause them to commit a crime they didn’t mean to commit, or take there frustrations out on the students.

In conclusion, it would unnecessary for teachers to bring a gun to school. It could be just as dangerous as a student bringing a gun to school. A teacher can be just as careless as anyone else who carries a gun. In the end, teacher shouldn’t need gun due to fact school systems already have a protection system. Violence isn’t needed, especially in school.

Guns are not the better outcome of bringing into schools because it does not have that many reasons for keeping it as the negative side do to ban them in a school. Adam Winker was right with his many reasonings of how guns do not bring a better outcome as if there was a law that let people carry guns into schools. People will not feel safer if those who are trying to protect them are the ones that are accidentally shooting them because of a mistake of figuring the…

"School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators," Trump said. He added that school board members, superintendents, principals, teachers, school safety experts, and public safety officials he has talked with around the nation consistently do not believe that educators and school support staff should be armed.…

Having an armed officer at a school would have the staff and students feel safe, because they wouldn’t have to worry about what others may bring to the school. Many teachers feel like they are at risk for harm when they come to school. That kind of stress can lead to the teachers getting sick and major health issues. Students who have this same fear will start doing poorly in school, or just not want to go so they ditch school. That isn’t a healthy environment, and is not fair to the staff and students to live in fear at the school.…

There should be no guns in class room. Because it may cause more violence in the school and cause more school shootings. Kids may find the gun and use it against others. Also some younger kids may feel threatened with a gun in the class room. However assuming that any teacher and kid would not go on a killing spree yes it could be a good idea, but considering most school shooting are caused by children/teens it is not a logic idea. We do not need more guns in schools I personally think that we need less guns in schools these days. There is no valid reason for there to be guns in schools unless it is owned by a police officer. Guns in schools lead to negative things and it should not happen. Say you have a fresh-faced, doe-eyed new teacher, 22 years old and starting their first day as a teacher. Now you've handed them a firearm and tell them that they have to have this gun with them at all times. Now the teacher might have a background with guns and be OK with that, but maybe they don't. Perhaps they're one of these 'pansy liberals' that get so much flack in the circles that think they should be armed. Well this teacher now has to make a decision, should they carry a gun on themselves and be forced to keep the student at arms length, thus hampering the learning environment, or should they simply let a multitude of kids get right up against the weapon? Well obviously we shouldn't be giving kids the opportunity to get at the weapon, and we don't want to hamper the learning experience, so let's give the teacher a gun safe to put it in. Now a few months pass and this safe is opened once or twice to check on the gun, because after all gun violence is still very minimal in the US despite what people on FB might shout. However this safe has to be readily available so that the teacher can get to it in times of emergency, but that means it's also readily available to curious and mischievous kids too. A kid will find a way to get into any locked compartment if they are…

According to the article “Gun safety, Texas-style” an editorial from the Los Angeles times, the article presents that in order to avoid campus tragedy or school shooting happens, the Texas government may establish a law that allow students to carry gun on campuses. As the campus shooting tragedy happened in the past, the law’s supporters think most of times the schools lack of ability to protect students. They believe the best defense way is the students have ability to fight back when students face to gunmen. The purpose of allowing students carry guns on campus is to prevent future recurrence of the campus tragedy. In my personal view, campus shooting tragedy is unfortunate for civil education and we oppose any violence on campus. Therefore, I definitely do not agree students should carry guns to school.…

Having guns on campus would not be a very healthy learning environment. When students sit in a classroom, they should not have the fear of one of their classmates pulling out a gun. If students are too busy thinking about guns being on campus, it could distract them from actually working. This issue might even extend to not wanting to go to school because they feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Also not a very healthy teaching environment for teachers. The teachers might be scared that a student would pull a gun out on him or her…

It was the beginning of the school year, so there shouldn’t have been any quarrels. However, in Clearwater, Florida local high schools have been receiving bomb threats and fights have been breaking out at different schools in Pinellas County, Florida but that didn’t stop Christopher Bloom and Christopher Brown from bringing a gun to school. In our days it’s becoming more and more popular that there are people shooting up schools and malls. To be able to effectively defend the students’ lives, the teacher needs to carry and wield a firearm: “if there were a school shooting and anyone had something to help slow down or stop the attack, I don’t see how it can be worse than letting a psychopath run loose with a gun and nothing to slow them down” (Youcancarry.com). Guns in classrooms? Yes. Guns at sporting events? No. The administrators use these as examples of places that will be marked armed and unarmed zones at the University of Texas. Fifty years ago the first mass shooting at an American college took place. The University of Texas experienced a mass shooting when a student shot 45 people, killing 14 of them, from the clock tower (Gubler). In the New York Times article “Philosophizing With Guns” Simone Gubler talks about the “campus carry” bill that will come into effect on the 50th anniversary for Texas colleges. This bill will allow students to carry guns with them, in certain areas, on campus. Gubler is uncertain about letting students carry guns on campus, and I have some of the same concerns about the situation.…

Claire Caulfeild said “because law enforcement can’t be the first responders, the first responders are those at the event…like teachers or parents.” Teachers and trusted parents should be able to carry guns. If you have a gun and something dangerous happens you will be the first to help. First responders won’t get there before it happens. Having a gun at your side would be very good to have.…

Many of the students and parents feel as though the principle and teachers aren't really concerned with the safety of everyone, they are only concerned with their safety. Having an armed teacher can lead to many disasters such as a teacher mistakenly shooting a student or staff, students ganging up on the teacher and taking their weapon, etc. If one of these scenarios took place it will not only help the solution, but it would make it worse. If the problem is weapons why not take weapons out of the school all together. Bringing in a metal detector or increasing security in schools would be a better and safer solution.…
