Should Students Be Allowed To Wear Uniforms Essay
Should Students be Allowed to Wear School Uniforms? Throughout the years, there has been much debate with schools across the country on whether or not students should be allowed to wear uniforms. Through past experience with this argument, it’s safe to say that wearing a uniform is not a bad thing at all. Why? For one, uniforms stop other students from being judged on how they look, two, they save families money and students will not pressure their parents into buying clothes some families can’t afford, and lastly uniforms increase safety and security. So I do strongly agree that students should be able to wear uniforms.
Moreover, when students are allowed to wear whatever they want, it causes judgment. If you don’t have the latest in fashion or have something that everybody around you does, you will get teased. If you don’t have money and you get all your clothes from goodwill, while the girl next to you has the newest Louie Vuitton purse, it causes a decrease in your self-confidence. Though this breaks the first amendment “freedom of expression”, your expression in the way you dress should not be putting you at risk for bullying and lack of confidence. Uniforms may not look the best on everybody but no one can judge each other because we all look the same.

When you see a young kid with no uniform on, it’s because they do not belong there and that right away points out the difference and who knows, maybe the kid could have been dangerous but we wouldn’t know because we pointed them out. If the school does not have uniforms then you wouldn’t be able to tell who goes there since everyone is dressed with outside clothing, a kid could be there just to sell drugs and then leave. With uniforms, they give not only the kids and parents but the staff a big relief on how simple it is to point someone out who belongs to that school. Uniforms give a sense of

Public schools across the United States have been dealing with the issue of dress codes. As of 2008, twenty-two U.S. states specifically authorized schools to institute dress codes or uniform policies (8). School boards may generally create and enforce dress code, but they must do so without violating students’ constitutional law (9). Schools are finding difficulty in enforcing their dress code among students. Parents feel as if the schools dress codes are condoning their students for expressing themselves and say that it is unconstitutional and wrong. Parents, students, and administrators all have the idea of uniforms in the back of their mind but, they will have to give up things to have them. Though a dress code for high schools students is appropriate, uniforms would be a better option.…

As I arrive at school, I hear girls behind me say, “Do you see what she is wearing, ew?” Everyday, I am bullied because of my attire. Because of the low income in my family, I do not always wear the most “stylish” outfits. Clothing type is one of the leading causes of bullying. Dorothy Espelage, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, says she has seen an increase in "bullying related to clothes.” I believe schools need to impose school uniforms. If school uniforms were enforced, equality would be promoted to all students. Also, the uniforms would not be distracting or flashy.…

"Just slapping clothes on kids won't improve a school, but uniforms accompanied by other reforms can make a difference. Uniforms send a message and remind students that they are in school. One element of the message is that when you are going to school, that is your place of work. That is the place where you are working at getting smart." ~Joe Palumbo. Uniforms cause children to be more civilized and mature in what they are doing. It could lead the kids to a greater future and teach them to be more proper. I have three or more points on why I am for school uniforms and why others are against uniforms. When students wear school uniforms, it shows what school they belong. For instance, if there were no uniform policy, anyone could walk into the school building fitting into the crowd with everyone else and the employees of the school would not know who belongs and who doesn’t belong. There could be a stranger waiting in the boys or girls bathroom waiting to harm one of the students. If the schools go with the uniform policy, this will help stop this action from occurring. If…

The wearing of uniform in schools is a controversial topic in our society, and is constantly undergoing debate. Some people say that wearing school uniform would save parents' money, as there would not be competition between students for the trendiest clothes (which also raises social problems). But on the other hand, children need their own clothes anyway; to wear on weekends and when they go out with their friends, and school uniform is often very expensive. The main social con that emerges from wearing own clothes to school is bullying that may occur due to one person's fashion sense not being up to scratch. But then again, one might argue that people are going to wear their own clothes, eg: on mufti days and school trips, and so bullying for fashion would take place anyway.…

Personally, I do not believe that students should be obligated to wear uniforms. First and foremost, I think that uniforms take away a student’s freedom of expression. Having freedom of expression is important to an adolescent, especially at a time when they are trying to find themselves.
