Should Space Exploration Be Continued?
Should space exploration be continued? Do you think that space exploration should be continued? Some people think that we should continue exploring the space, and others think that we should stop exploring the space. These people have their own reasons for it or against it. Either way, space exploration has both its advantages and disadvantages. In my personal opinion, I think that we should continue exploring the space because exploring space gives people many benefits. Exploring the space will solve humans’ oversized population and scarce resources problems, and also will improve our technology. If mankind stops exploring the space, our world will only be limited to Earth, and it will be so tiny compared to the universe. The universe is full with mysteries, and the Earth just a small dot in the universe. Human natural curiosity has to motivate people to explore the mysteries of space. Our curiosity compels us to explore the unknown world. If people stop at the origin and do not do anything, they will never be improve. Some people think that space exploration is waste of resources. They think that even if there is a planet suited for mankind to live, it will be so far away, and it may take hundreds or thousands years to reach it at the speed of light. Right now, mankind does not have a spaceship going the speed of light, and even if scientists invent this kind of spaceship, there is no guarantee that we can provide enough fuel for it to travel in light years. For modern technology, it will be hard, but I believe in the near future, it will be completed. Can ancient people imagine that humanity has invented airplanes that fly on the sky? No one will really know what will happen in the future, and everything will be possible as long as people who dare to dream.
Some people may think that exploring the space is waste of money, and we should use those money to fix Earth itself. They think that “the needs of humanity should always come first. While there are

    Benefits of NASA

Since the beginning of time there have always been those that have opposed exploration of uncharted lands. This statement holds truth also for the NASA program since the beginning when President John F. Kennedy's vision was to ‘land a man on the moon by the end of the decade.' Instead of all the opposition of NASA and questions such as, "Why should we go to space?" I believe people should ask themselves, "Why shouldn't we go to space?" Christopher Columbus didn't have to sail over the Atlantic Ocean and discover America, he could have stayed in Europe but then we may not be living in the United States of America. Christopher Columbus and many others human didn't stop but continued to explore because they are humans. We as humans have an instinctive nature to explore and discover. This is seen especially in children. When toddlers see something such as a shiny object, they investigate it by picking it up, feeling it and maybe tasting it. As we grow, it is only necessary that we as humans continue their search to discover and explore. If the excitement and thrill of exploration isn't enough for you, there are also many benefits that NASA and space exploration contribute.…

Throughout the history of mankind, we humans have always been eager to explore the world and space around us. Many developed countries have been funding the research programs aim at developing and improving the technology for space exploration. On the other hand, several research programs aim at improving the quality of life and providing the basic necessities of life to needy people have not been implemented due to lack of funds, In my opinion money and effort spends on space exploration is a complete a fruitful expenditure for the next generation.…

If the government no longer funded NASA, space would most likely become privatized, meaning that corporations would begin to commercialize space. If we don’t fund NASA any longer, companies will begin to exploit yet another thing that should not be used for economic gain. Nothing worthwhile will be gained for humanity if we allow an insignificant number of people reap the benefits of making a profit off of giving people joyrides.…

Even if we discontinue the funding of NASA we could still have some control over space in some way by setting laws so the states could have some control over the private companies that would fund themselves. If we keep funding NASA or set some control over the private companies we may be able to make some profit off of the space program and besides, would you rather live in space or on another planet, than stay on earth. And in any way the earth is going to inevitably die anyway so basically the only way to survive is to leave this planet and go to an entirely different solar system and find a faster source of space travel like a “Warp Drive” or a “Black Hole Engine” to…

In 1961, the world was changed forever, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin entered the spacecraft Vostok 1 and traveled into space. Following him in the same year, was the American astronaut Alan Shepard in Freedom 7. Then in 1969 the crew of the Apollo 11 mission landed on the Moon. This space race in the 1960s helped to light the fire of man’s interest in outer space and has lead mankind to wonder if we could live away from the comfort and safety of planet Earth. Many scientist and explorers have wondered if it would be possible to colonize the Moon or Mars for the purpose of research, resources, and hopefully a secondary home for the human race. However, many people have also doubted the idea of leaving the safety of planet Earth to explore other options of habitable places. Many argue that space exploration is dangerous and some critics argue that it is using too much money that could…

While I wholeheartedly agree with the points introduced by Griffin I believe that he undermines many of the legitimate scientific, economic, and security related benefits associated with space exploration. I completely concur with Griffin’s opinion as to why many explore space, which he states is human curiosity, a monument to address our accomplishments, and to leave something behind for the future generations. Primarily, I agree with Griffin’s claim that curiosity sparks interest in space exploration. For example, since the early existence of mankind, we are notorious for charting into the unknown. We, as humans, are very curious and intriguing beings. Most species tend to remain in close proximity to their residence, only migrating to improve breeding conditions or to seek a source of food. However, humans tend to explore any unknown region within their capabilities. Although plunging deep into the ocean or projecting into space doesn’t necessarily improve breeding conditions or food supply immediately, I believe humans explore the unknown in order to prepare for the future. Inevitably, within an unknown matter of time Earth will no longer be a habitable shelter for humankind. I believe humans are interested in spreading their species and preserving their existence by exploring the possibilities of shelter in space. Another reason I believe that humans seek to explore space if to understand our origins. For thousands of years humans…

For example, complications such as "back contamination", bringing diseases back from space, and "forward contamination", bringing Earth's diseases into space, should be taken into account (Source F). However, these sorts of problems are not unsolvable. They are simply an issue of ethics. In "To Boldly Go: Ethical Considerations for Space Exploration" (Source E), Margaret McLean takes a similar stance. She isn't against space exploration altogether, but instead advises explorers to "account for [their] urges and actions in terms of their impact on others." Further, McLean proposes the idea of "stewardship." This concept proffers space exploration without potentially harming our solar system; she writes, "Stewardship envisions humans not as owners of the solar system but as responsible managers of its wonder and beauty." As long as we view space as an inherently valuable entity, as McLean proposes in her plan for stewardship, then there is no need to quell humanity's innate desire to…

Those who are against the continuance of NASA funding and space exploration have a number of arguments at their disposal. The most heard argument from those against is, “We shouldn’t spend money on space exploration until we have solved our problems here on Earth”. (Hedman, 2005) There are obvious problems in the United States, i.e. global warming, resource depletion, incurable disease, healthcare, etc. The U.S. is at a current National Debt of 13.6 trillion dollars. (Simmons, 2010) The Department of treasury spent $414 billion dollars on paying interest to National Debt holders. (Simmons,…

Over many generations space has become a great curiosity for mankind. Many questions have risen such as “How many planets are in the solar system?” or “Is earth the center of the solar system?” Obviously, now with historic astronomers such as Galileo the 8 planets and the sun in the center, has become the central idea of what is the universe to mankind today. But why not reach out more? Today questions have risen “Will we ever get to Mars?” “Is there life on Mars?” Mars, Mars, Mars! ; This is goal of the National Aeronautics and Space administration today. NASA the wondrous space program of the world, forming in the brink of the terrible “Cold War”, NASA fought with the Soviets with the creation of the Apollo program, Neil Armstrong putting our American colors on the grey moon; America had outlasted the Soviets in so called “Space Race”. But why? Because of the great curiosity that mankind had in the Universe. Curiosity is a powerful force that drove NASA past the Space Race and never let it stop. After Apollo program ended budget cuts followed; but succeeded with the Skylab project and the Viking Mars Landers but most of all the majestic Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble Space Telescope lets us watch the expansion of the universe in a way never before imagined. Not only does it have 10 times the resolution of a ground-based telescope and 50 times the sensitivity, but another development around the same time made its unprecedented views of the universe more accessible than any previous scientific advance. All these achievements NASA as accomplished, why aren’t they going further? The tragedies such as the explosion of Colombia and the tremendous budget has overshadowed the curiosity that mankind has. “NASA should be shut down”, people have said. Others have said “Is it really necessary”. These people don’t realize the importance of NASA as their minds are clouded with the current economy and how much this program is spending. This…

I read about the Apollo missions and the obsession with space exploration. Space exploration has been a human fascination since the early 1960s, probably even before then actually. The first person to be put into space was in was Yuir Gagarin at the age of 27, by the Russian Soviet Union. However, it wasn't until 1969 that NASA successfully landed the first man (men) on the moon, with the Apollo 11space mission. Interestingly enough, NASA hasn't attempted go revisit the moon since. Many speculate humans never made it to the moon, and that all of the "evidence" was entirely fabricated.Regardless, ever since then, humans have been fascinated with the idea of trying to reach other planets and possibly inhabit them. Many attempts to find life on…

We have made much progress on our knowledge about what is beyond our atmosphere. We have put a man on the moon and have educated our society about our universe. We have built an international space station that allows human beings to live outside our atmosphere for years, researching and studying so that we may understand Earth in a much better way. We have learned so much about our world, and a lot of it is thanks to the Space Shuttle Program. It has been very efficient to us for a long time, but times have changed. NASA’s Space Shuttle Program has gone over budget and fallen behind its schedule. It is affecting our economy…
