Should Religion Subject be taught in Indonesia’s Public Schools?
Should Religion Subject be taught in Public Schools? There are many debates around this. People argue that religion subject should be taught at home not at school. Even though religion subject considering like that but it should give for the young generation in schools at as early an age (Alwasih, 2011). At least 95 percent of Indonesia’s constitution compulsory to give religion subject in public schools because it enhances students’ awareness and understanding about religious, composes students to have a good-characteristic and helps curriculum achievement.

The subjective teaching of religion subject make parents feels uncomfortable position because they think that family has responsibility for their children on religious learning (Wesiati, 2011). In contrast, the application of this course concerns to separate students with their classmate. Just the opposite, in some countries, religion subject has already arranged in curriculum which as program of religious education such as Indonesia. It has goal to help students to compose their own religious identity and also respect for different life. For these reason religion subject helps Indonesia’s curriculum achievement.
To conclude, religion subject should be taught in Indonesia’s public schools because it is better to consider detrimental happens in human’s life. It give a positive contribution for society. We cannot stop the discrimination so, we have to implement religion subject in school as a simple way to avoid many negative cases. Religion subject encourages students to learn from differences, develops their sense identity and also enables them to combat
