Should Music Lyrics Be Censored

Music lyrics and videos should be censored more due to the fact that degrading music promotes substance abuse , indulges and misinterprets sex, and intensifies aggression. Some Vulgar music lyrics and Television shows promote and glamorize substance abuse in the minds of adolescents. For example, according to a study published in “Pediatrics”, the article states, “increased television and music video viewing are risk factors for the onset of alcohol use by adolescents.”(Morin 1-2). The message from the media is unreliable for adolescents because it only indulges in sex not expressing the dangers. Kids see these behaviors as normal and acceptable when few people actually live this way. As Well, as expressed in the article published by “Livestrong”, the author explained, “that men are often portrayed as sex driven, and women and sex objects,”(Morin 1-2). Teaching kids that males are dominant and females are toy to be thrown around diminishes values and defeats the point of gender equality. Young boys grow up believing all women behave like the women in music videos. Their unrealistic views on relationships could prove disastrous or even dangerous.
