Should Illegal Immigrants Get The Right To Obtain A Drivers License
It is nearly absurd to perceive how many illegal immigrants are driving around the United States without a driver's license. Illegal immigration has been a debatable topic in the United States. Moreover getting a drivers license is not as easy as in other countries for illegal immigrants. Regardless of their status, people, should be competent to obtain a drivers license, generating a reduction in hit-and-run accidents, beneficial law enforcement's, as well as safer roads for the nations brighter future. According to a new report from the Pew Hispanic Center, "an estimated 10.3 million illegal immigrants lived in the United States…majority are from Mexico, and other Latin American countries". People alike "Adrian, a 45-year-old carpenter from El Salvador…said his heart pounds every time he gets behind the wheel…" knowing people like him can get deported at any moment in their lives. Even if the driver is driving carefully, any police can stop them, because of the color of their skin. Proceeding with asking for drivers license and insurance papers, which many are driving without. When applying to acquire a drivers license, eventually a photo, address, and other personal information is required in order to proceed. If an individual was to commit a crime, it would be a easier way to track the suspect down. Not to mention there would be a decrease in identity theft reports, and acquiring drivers licenses fraudulently. Many states are in favor for illegal immigrants to obtain a drivers license alike Nevada, Illinois, Washington D.C, and New Mexico. Although some states deny licenses to illegal immigrants, this only increases the number of people divining unlicensed and uninsured, which "undermines effective law enforcement" in the United

A national identification card would be used to prove our identity to government officials. There are various arguments for and against having this identification card. The arguments in favor are that it would be easier to identify and control immigration. The arguments against a national I.D. card are that it would be difficult to ensure that the majority of the population would register for it. Some, such as the homeless, might have trouble proving their identities in order to receive a card because of a lack of Social Security numbers or birth certificates. Also there is no point in having a separate national identity card when the state driver's license system is already in place. This card can be used to track individuals, if the government chooses not to create this database, then it might be too easy for people to commit fraud by having multiple cards with different identities. I know that having an identification card can make us feel more secure but still I don’t think it would stop crime.…

residents or citizens. Having this Arizona law go into effect will bring about much riots and controversies. Arizona’s new immigration law may have been aimed at deporting as many illegal immigrants as possible, but an ironic side effect will allow more undocumented residents to apply for temporary work visas and permanent U.S. citizenship, according to research by the Arizona Capitol Times (Jim Small). When this law goes into effect in late July it will bring about racial profiling and wrongfully accusing innocent citizens. How would it make you feel if you were pulled over by a police officer for a bogus reason and later asked to prove your residency because you looked like an immigrant? Yet you’re a U.S. born citizen and been living in your state for years it would offend you and make you feel livid because you were racially profiled. The law has to be vetoed by the government to avoid many lawsuits and the discriminatory of the U.S. citizens. President Obama himself said that having this law will bring about controversy and hurting innocent Latino families (Archibold). According to the New York Times, "The country needs to confront the issue, to lift the fear that pervades immigrant communities, to better harness the energy of immigrant workers, to protect American workers from off-the-books competition. What's been happening as the endless wait for reform drags on has been ugly." Recently in one of the suits filed, a Tucson police officer, Martin Escobar, 45, a 15-year veteran, claims the law , which requires officers "when practicable" to stop and check the legal status of people they reasonably suspect may be illegal immigrants, would compel him to racially profile (Archibold). Mr. Escobar argues that the law does not specify what criteria…

Other sources indicate approximately sixty three percent of both Chinese and Indian immigrants reported their level of English proficiency as “very well” (McCabe, 2012; Whatley, 2013). Because of the high levels of immigrants who do not speak English, the subject has become very popular in the political world. As of 2012, thirty US states had executed certain laws as an attempt to lower the level of non-English speaking people. An example of one of these laws is that in order to obtain a drivers license, a person must speak English adequately (Newman,…

According to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are approximately 17,000 people killed by drunk drivers every year. Drunk drivers whose alcohol level is above .08. Most drunk drivers involved in fatality crashes are repeated offenders. In fact nearly half of the fatal crashes were cars driven by drunk drivers with a suspended license. They often slip through the cracks with a slap on the wrist, possibly privileged license, and probation. Sometimes you have offenders that have their license suspended but drive anyway or at least until they are caught. It would be nice to know that if they are driving without a license they would at least be sober. When you think about the statistics of how many innocent people lose their lives every year, installing breathalyzers doesn’t seem like a bad idea.…

I feel that it isn’t really the legislators place to decide that only kids with good grades get their driver’s license. It’s only the parents/ guardians place to decide if their own child should get their driver’s license or not. It would almost be taking some freedom away, because parents/guardians can raise their children however they want, that isn’t illegal of course, but if legislators pass this policy, that’s something parents don’t have a say in when raising their children. Some parents may want their teen to have their driver’s license even if the teen doesn’t have good grades. Some may not, but it’s the parents’ choice. An example is if the parent needed the teen to be able to drive around and do errands for them because the parent is too busy but their grades aren’t to the policy’s requirements, then the teen wouldn’t be able to help their parents out because there’s a policy against teens getting their license while having bad grades. Also, if the parent had become temporarily or even permanently disabled and couldn’t drive but needed to be chauffeured places by their teen…

I believe that a student should be required to maintain a “C” grade average in order to get a driver’s license. If a student can maintain a “C” grade average it shows that he/she can be responsible & mature. If a student can’t handle academic responsibilities, then how can she handle driving a car an even bigger responsibility? Requiring a “C” average to students who want their driver’s license will force them to be responsible and apply themselves.…
