Should Friends Be Honest with Each Other?
I think there's a fine line between being honest for someone's benefit and being honest just the sake of it. When it comes to your friends, it depends on the type of relationship you have. Being completely honest with occasional friends isn't always necessary but with your best friends, honesty is the only way to have a real friendship.

With my closest friends, I am as honest as possible but I do it in a positive way. If I don't agree with a decision they've made or something they've done, I tell them, but I make sure that I'm not judgmental or hurtful. I let them know that even though I don't agree with something they've done, I understand their reason for doing it, and we discuss other solutions.

When it comes to little things, like a person's haircut, or what they're wearing, honesty again depends on the type of friendship. Some people ask for advice on their appearance because they want the truth. So I give it to them. But others ask because they are fishing for a compliment. I'm not a fake person so I won't lie, but I won't tell them the truth either. eg/ One of my roommates dyed her hair and I didn't like it. The first time I saw her after she got it done, she obviously wanted me to comment. Instead of saying "Oh wow your hair look amazing!" I said "Wow you dyed your hair, it looks so

Firstly, Honesty is not the best policy because you could hurt someone’s feelings. If someone asks you if they look alright and you say no, they are going to take that offensive. In my opinion telling the truth is not worth hurting somebody’s feelings. That person may never talk to you again or may hurt your feelings back and that’ll just turn into one big fight.…

First of all, lying hurts relationships. Brand Blanton says in his interview with Barbara Ballinger that you should “have the courage to be honest and have a relationship with others based on reality” (par. 5). Why be friends with someone you can’t be honest with? It’s important to base your relationships…

You can think you know everything about a person ,but that doesn’t mean you do. I know that you’ve heard this ever since you were five ,but it’s the truth, ‘Be the friend you want to have’ and ‘ treat people how you wish to be treated.” I say this because maybe you went through a tough time and no one noticed how much pain you were in. So always make sure your friends are okay they may have a smile on their face, but remember that doesn’t always mean they’re okay on the inside. It’s so much easier to put a fake smile on your face then it is to tell everyone exactly how you are…

I believe it all starts with authentic communication which refers to communication that is open and free from pretense. We expect our closest friends to be authentic, or "real" with us. It is because we are connecting with their true selves and we ourselves are also able to be our truest selves with them inside the friendship. The primary and most important thing that authentic communicators do is always allow others to speak. Denying our closest friends the right to communicate authentically can lead to termination of the relationship. Being open in your…

Among the three accounts, the most correct in my opinion is the Mirror view. Most of the people find comfort in associating with the people that they share some characteristics, for instance, the people who have the same behavior (Matthews and Cocking, 224). Friends would enjoy one another’s company if they can share on a common topic, for example, if they like discussing politics. Imagine a scenario whereby two friends enjoy two different topics, politics, and football. How would they find a consensus in their conversations? At least when we are considering the choice of friends we want we often look at any characteristic that we share in common. The chemistry must be complete with it. Mirror View best describes my selection of friends. Over the years, I have always looked for friends that have similar characteristics as me for easy bondage. At least we would go for movies together without a lot of convincing. Nevertheless, I believe self-disclosure to be a recipe to an effective ‘mirror view’…

I believe honesty is the best policy but if the truth will hurt some ones feeling I think sometimes lying in small circumstance would be a better choice. Personally I would prefer to be told the truth all the time, but I know a lot of people who are sensitive and they would be offended by the truth. I disagree with Immanuel Kant telling a small lie to spare…

I believe you should not lie to the people that are in your life. You may end up losing them from just lying. Brad Blanton states “ Get away from those people who begrudge you, even if it means losing business or friendship.” By this I mean that you can lose people that are really close to you and you may lose everybody also may even the people that you have a really good relationship with.…

“If I could only give three words of advice, they would be, “tell the truth”. If I got three more words, I'd add: “All the time”. This is something I truly believe in. If you tell someone a lie when you mess up and they catch you, that person will lose trust in you and you will lose their loyalty. But if you tell the truth all the time, a person will know that when it comes down to it, they can trust you in other things and they will be loyal to you for being honest with them and taking responsibility for your own actions or mess ups.…

Moral law decrees that lying to a friend in order to spare his or her feelings is impermissible. According to Immanuel Kant, lying in any instance is an immoral act and is not allowed. Subsequently, Jeremy Bentham, would state that people will always attempt to maximize happiness and minimize suffering, making lying acceptable in some cases. Lying is immoral especially in the case of attempting to keep a friend from feeling pain by telling them the truth. For example, if your friend were to ask you how they look in an outfit before they go on a date with and you lie to them about it saying that they look fine, this is not permissible. Lying, is never permissible and the truth should always answer you give to a friend. According to deontology there are multiple laws that must be followed if one is to act as a moral agent in the world.…

People say “tell me the truth, I can handle it.” But really inside, they don’t want the truth; they want you to tell them something that is going to make them feel good. What if a friend asked you a question that if you were to be honest, forced you to say something that was likely to hurt their feelings? For instance, “do I look fat in this?” As a good friend, you’re supposed to tell them what they want to hear. Lying to them this way doesn’t make you a bad friend; I believe it makes you a better one…

By saying the truth you could mess things up with your relationships with friends or with family. My argument is that saying the truth all the time could be bad at some points. Octavia Butler, an American writer, states this better than I can. “Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over”. Saying nothing at all brings people together, and it's important not to…
