Should Animals Be Used In Medical Research?
Peta, an animal rights organization, wrote in their article ‘Experiments on Animals’ that, “Each year, more than 100 million animals--including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds--are killed in U.S. laboratories.” All different types of animals are put through so many different kinds of painful experiments all over the world. Animals should not be used in medical research because of the succession rate and the safety. It has been argued that animals should be used in scientific research because of the medical advantages that come from the tests. The American Heart Association, a social services organization in Cincinnati, Ohio, wrote an article titled Public Policy Agenda 2010-2014 that,

The National Anti-Vivisection Association (NAVS), a group that advocates for animals and more humane science, stated in their article titled ‘Failure of Laws and Regulations to Protect Animals’ that, “...state anti-cruelty statutes exempt from coverage those animals used for scientific and/or educational purposes.” However, because of the mistreatment of the animals, they should not be allowed to be tested on. Jane Goodall, a ethologist and author, reported to the Times (UK) that, “In the name of science or medicine, animals are subjected to countless invasive, frightening and sometimes very painful procedures.” This quote demonstrates that, the many tests and surgeries that are performed on these animals are very harsh and ruthless. The animals go through many tests, blood draws, vivi-sections, etc. that are very painful and not necessary.
