Short Story Of Tough Hope
Have you ever had trouble in school? Well I have almost my whole life, ever since I started second grade I’ve struggled with…AR points. Tough hope has affected my life for over five years. In this story you will learn more about how this struggle started, making the mistakes, and how I am now working on AR points currently.
First this is how it began, I was never the best at reading and I wasn't really a fan of reading either. It was always harder for me to find a book or series that I am interested in. When it comes to me sitting down and staring at a piece of paper with words is usually very hard for me to stay still.
A very hard problem for me is repeating, this mistake over and over. The problem has happened almost every year, since second

My earliest memory of reading or writing is these old learning books that I used to read in preschool. My mom used to make me read them over and over to ingrain the information in my head; they ranged from the stars to ancient pharaohs and gave me a better background and understanding before I went to school. I used to hate reading but it slowly increased my interest and seemed to give me a better reading ability and I’ve kept the interest since then. During elementary school, we had to read a book a month, to keep ourselves reading, even though, most students dreaded it. It was often difficult to find a book I enjoyed, but when I did I read the entire book in just a few days. My peers tended to be a negative impact on my literacy because they would often joke that I was a nerd for reading, which would make me want to stray away from books.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

I used to love reading. In kinder and first, my nose was stuck in a Magic Tree House book. Third, fourth, and fifth grade I basically lived at Hogwarts (in my rightfully sorted house, of course, I am a proud Hufflepuff). And in middle school, I discovered THE tween series of my generation, Maximum Ride. Reading was exciting, and even though I had done it for years every time I picked up a book it felt so novel. I was your ordinary bookworm until seventh grade when the joint power of Ms. Green’s teaching and James Patterson’s writing broke my will to read.…

I’ve always responded well to words, so it was no surprise that Verbal-Linguistic is my highest intelligence. People who are high in this intelligence think in words, enjoy reading and writing in their free time, have highly developed auditory skills, and can be taught well through words, directions, and books. Any of my friends could tell you that I love to read. Ever since I learned, I have devoured books like I’m starving. The summer before my 5th grade year I read the Percy Jackson series at least 9 times, and that doesn't include the many times I've reread it since. I currently always have a stack from the library waiting right by my bed, and a second more permanent pile of books I loved so much I…

For as long as I can remember, I have found reading to be tedious for the most part. I felt reading was something appealing only to teachers as a vehicle to improve our literacy and comprehension skills. As I grew up reading the assigned chapter books, I found they stood as hurdles for me to jump before I could return to my regular schedule of video games and mindless television. These books never established any significant conflict or brought forth tension; so I became overtaken with indifference. I had no interest in reading as it held no special significance to me at all.…

The first decades of the twenty-first century were full of overcoming obstacles. Prodigy by Marie Lu, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, The Lost Hope by Rick Riordan, or The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi. What do these four stories all have in common, other than their dystopian category? They all are full of hope that leads to perseverance and in the end overcoming the main conflict.…

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

As I write this, I have my four year old niece sitting next to me saying, “Wow, you have a lot of drawing on your page!” All I can do is laugh to myself and think that was once me, not knowing the meaning of each word and innocently intrigued by the simple presence of words on a paper. This interest would soon turn into the curiosity to read. Hoping to read as gracefully as my mother when she read bible stories before my twin sister and I would drift off to sleep, I was devastated to find out I didn’t read as well as the other children. In fact, I had to be pulled from my reading class to a remedial class with one on one interaction between the teacher and student. As disappointed as I was then, I’ll…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

I can’t say I fully learned how to read and write when I was younger, it is a process of learning that never ends. There will always be a book that challenges you, a word you don't understand, or a method of writing you haven't tried. The more you read the smaller the world seems, and the larger your head becomes. I came to realise my love and passion for literature. Still to this day I rarely leave the house without my copy of “To Build a Fire” by Jack London. Many of my friends, and the people I grew up with hated reading. I distinctly remember receiving perturbed looks from fellow classmates after stating that I prefered reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” in class then watching the film afterwards. I want for every person I meet, and know to have that same yearning for literature that I have, and I believe that everyone can if they only take the time to practice learning to read and…

Reading and writing is something essential in today’s society. It is how people communicate without using spoken words. It is how we talk with certain combination of words that convey the message of what someone is trying to say. Essentially it is another way for a person to express himself/herself. For me personally I haven’t been the greatest with English. It is something that I feel I am not really good at, my writing has endless possibilities of improving when compared to others people’s work. I am not the greatest writer or reader as well. I feel that I can read fluently until I am halted by a word I have not seen or heard before. Even though have these shortcomings, I still love to read. I love to read material that has deep meaning or…
