Abstract Going shopping is a major source of relaxation when it is for clothes, shoes and handbags. But house shopping is to me a household chore. Linked with females, household shopping is an activity that normally puts pressure on you due to time constraints. In my paper, I try to explain my reasoning for loving to shop. I also touch a little on the statistics on shopping between men and women, the amount of time women shop throughout their lives. Based the statistics it illustrates the difference on how men and women shop, be it online or in an actual store. “Although men are playing a significant role in shopping activities, particularly shopping for household groceries, shopping remains a gendered activity but it is not a pleasure less activity. Emeralinsight.com concludes “that the supermarket is likely to be the retail setting where the changing roles will make the greatest impact”. To me meaning that men would rather go grocery shopping than mall shopping with their significant other or even themselves.

Growing up as a young girl I was exposed to many people who loved to shop. My mother and one of my aunts were the two biggest influences when it came to dressing. As the young child my mother dressed me very well. However when my parents divorced when I was 12 years old and we were now down to one income, my mother could no longer afford to buy me clothes the way that she and I had been accustomed to. Then as a teenager in junior high and high school, it was my girlfriends and schoolmates. My girlfriends and schoolmates were dressing the way that I would have liked to and was able to do when my parents were together. During junior high and high school they were able to go shopping every other week when

    Shopping has become a daily activity which happens a billion times in America and around the world. We cannot imagine how our lives would be affected if shopping was suddenly stopped. Malcolm Gladwell and Anne Norton both write articles about two sides of modern day shopping: how consumers have impacted the retail industry and how the industry influences consumers. In the article " The Science of Shopping," Malcolm Gladwell, a well-known writer and journalist, analyzes the shopping behaviors of customers and how retailers can lure customers; while Anne Norton, a professor of political science at the University of Pennsylvania, in “The Signs of Shopping" focuses more on different types of shopping and the construction of identity which customers gain through purchasing. Although two articles argue about different aspects within the same topic, the article by Gladwell seems to be stronger than Anne Norton 's argument. Gladwell gives solid scientific evidence, which are based on Paco Underhill’s study of retail anthropology, so his argument is convincing, while Norton 's article has a lack of proof and is flawed when she stereotypes women as "recognition dependence" (106).…

    Gender differences in humans can be observed everywhere; one of the most noticeable differences is an activity that many people participate in - shopping. I personally enjoy shopping even though I don’t have a lot of time to do so. When I shop, I like to go with my friends because sometimes their opinion on what I’m shopping for matters to me.     When watching a male walk into a store, it is evident that he will walk right over to the section in which he was intending to buy an item from. A boy is known to grab the item, and if clothing the right size, and pay for it then leave the store. He does not look around at ever aisle and at every section of the store, and he most definitely would not be going from hanger to hanger. When a girl walks into the store, most likely with more than one friend, and she will start looking at the very front of the store and working her way to the back. She will get caught looking at the jean table right at the front of the door. Then her and her friends will work their way around the shirts and then will finally end up in the back at the sales rack. After all of her friends and her are as far in the back as they can be, they will all have arms full of clothes. Even though her and her friends gathered a lot of clothes, this does not mean that they will be buy all of these items. They will indeed take a very long time when it comes to deciding what they should buy and what they should hide so the next time they come back it will still be there. While a girl is shopping she will be with her friends. They talk about what they found and talk about their lives in general. This is why it is more of a social event, rather than just an in and out shopping trip. When guys shop they do not chose to have their social event as a group shopping…
