Shell Less Egg Lab Report
Problem question:
When a Shell - less egg is placed into a beaker of corn syrup, will there be any water going into or out of the egg and if the shell - less egg is placed in a beaker of distilled water will be any net flow of water going into or out of the egg.

Hypothesis:
If a shell - less egg is placed into a beaker of corn syrup solution, then there will be a net flow of water going into the egg because the water molecules will be small enough to pass through the membrane of the egg.

If a shell - less egg is placed into a beaker of distilled water, then there will be a net flow of water going out of the egg because since the egg and the solution outside of it need to reach equilibrium the molecules inside egg will need to come out.

Day 3: remove the eggs from the cups and pat the eggs dry with the paper towel.
Find the masses of the eggs, record the masses observe what happened to the eggs and write your observations.
Give the eggs to the teacher.
Pour the solutions into the drain and throw away the cups

The Plasma membrane is made of a semi-permeable bilayer of phospholipids embedded with proteins.
What are two jobs of the membrane?
On of the job plasma membrane is to act as a molecular gatekeeper to prevent certain substances from crossing, while granting access to others.
What can easily pass through the membrane?
Simple elements and compounds, like water.
What types of substances need carrier proteins to cross the membrane?
Larger and more complex carbohydrates need carrier proteins to pass through the membrane.
Define diffusion. Diffusion is the movement of molecules down a concentration gradient from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower
