Shawshank Redemption
The story of Shawshank has always been one of my favorites. The ending, the beginning, the whole movie is just exciting, entertaining, and lastly, puzzling. One thing I and many others love about the movie is the ability it has to all come together at the end. I would say this movie is a drama. It has a lot of highs and lows throughout the film. Andy Dufresne is the main character and plays this really smart man that was accused of murdering his wife and her lover. He was then sent to Shawshank prison where he later on escapes, because the warden liked him too much and wouldn’t let him go when he found out he was innocent. This movie had one of those endings where everything starts to make sense and you can’t help but to think more about it after the film is done. Definitely one of those movies that just make you smile at parts. I would also classify Shawshank as a crime film because the core of the movie is rotated around crime. The reason everyone in Shawshank met was because of crime, innocent or not. The irony of the movie was that the people running the prison were committing crimes of their own. The movie is based on the book (Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption) by Stephen King. The name Stephen King sound familiar? Stephen King is pretty much the creator of everyone’s nightly nightmare that you wake up sweating to. Which is weird that he was involved in making this crazy masterpiece that has no relevance in his usual “Horror” films? Stephen King also wrote a book by the name of “Green Mile” which was also later produced into a movie in 1999. The movie was directed by Frank Darabont and produced by Niki Marvin. Frank Darabont has directed three movies, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, and The Mist are the movies that he has directed. See any similarities between the trio? Stephen King wrote a book about all three! Featured actors are Morgan Freeman who played Andy’s best friend Red and Tim Robbins who played the main character “Andy Dufresne”.
