Project 2: Writing for Change Essay When I was a middle school student, I cared too much about my appearance so, I watched a movie Shallow Hal. In the movie, there is a superficial man who always judges other people’s appearance. When he was young, his father passed away and father’s will become his principle in life. Inspired by his father’s will: ‘Hot young tail. That’s what it’s all about’, the father made Hal promise to date only beautiful women. One day, he met an American life coach Tony Robbins and the life coach enabled him to see a beauty inside by hypnotizing Hal. After that, he met a Rose who is slender and beautiful trophy blonde and he started to date her. However, his friend, Mauricio confessed that Hal was hypnotized by Tony Robbins. Hal began to see Rose’s truth that she didn't have any attractive aspect and leaves Rose. The ending of this story is that he realized his true love for Rose and begs for mercy and they reconcile. This movie is a very good example that depicts frankly how we discriminate people because of their height and weight. Discriminating others by appearance; this is what we call “Lookism.” Lookism can be found in our daily life. I hope you think deeply for a few seconds before I show you statistics. People who argue ‘There are some reasons that an attractive person is treated better’ because attractive people know how to express themselves and be more positive than unattractive people. There are support reasons that attractive people could grow up in that way because they did not be hurt or treated badly from other people. There is some truth in it.
